Why NO ONE Should Give A Flying Fuck About What Mel Gibson Said During His Arrest (2869 hits)

I've been sick and tired of hearing about celebrities for a long ass time, but the recent arrest of Mel Gibson has really made me want to close myself off from society and live in the fucking sticks, far away from TV and the internet.

In the Middle East, innocent people are dying left and right, Iraq is still a nightmare, Kim Jong Il (The Illest) could already have nuclear weapons. People are being slaughtered, people are starving, and the top story on CNN was the Anti-Semitic remarks that Gibson hurled at officers during his DUI arrest.

Don't get me wrong. Being a racist bigot is fucking atrocious, but I wonder how many not famous people who've said some stupid racist things while drunk off of their asses got any kind of media coverage at all?

Probably none.

Why we give celebrities the attention that we do is beyond the realm of my understanding. Celebrities are irrelevant, overpaid performing monkeys who deserve zero attention from the American public (and the World at large).

We should be cheering for scientists, philanthropists and people who actually do some kind of good for the whole of humanity, not these whiney, ungrateful assholes who claim to be do-gooders, yet continue to live "meager" lifestyles in their million dollar estates.

One of the main things that pisses me off is that most of today's "talent" see more money than people who were/are actually talented! I bet that 50 Cent will see more money than Frank Sinatra ever did.

That is fucking sickening.

Their purpose is to entertain. I like going to the movies and listening to music, but as far as being interested in these performers beyond that is just being retarded. I know way more about Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Collin Farrell and countless other famous assholes who would probably be lucky to get jobs as pencil pushers in the real, actual world.

The most laughable result of the whole Gibson arrest was the call for everyone to boycott him...like that's going to mean anything. That bastard made more money off of Jesus Christ than The Church has, probably since the beginning of time. Maybe he'll only be able to afford a 6 ounce filet mignon instead of an 8 ounce.

Boo fucking hoo.

Besides, the Aryan Nation will probably now purchase every Mel Gibson movie ever made and put them on rotation during their Anti-Semitic rallies. He'll be the new poster child for all things hate, and will probably make more money that way than he ever did by being a "good guy."

Is this the state of our society? What have we become? Sad, sad people who can't peel our asses off of the couch long enough to do anything positive in our decline. Sad, sad people who care more about a celebrity than the countless innocent lives that have been lost at the hands of war. Sad, sad people who spend our money on clothes and shoes and stuff that we don't need instead of passing it along to someone who truly needs it.

We're all guilty.

Shame on you, Mel.

But maybe, more importantly, shame on us.

+2 but most of the "entertainment" delivered by "celebrities" nowadays is watching them fuck up. That brings a smile to my face more than any other talent. You can't teach that.

Hearst, Disney, and NBC own The History Channel.

Who owns NBC? GE does.

What else does GE do? They build aircraft engines, and lots of other good things related to defense contracting.

OMG!!!!!!!! ITS TEH H0L33 GR43L!!!!!1ONE

1. Mel Brooks, who shamelessly promoted universal Zionist state in "Jews in Space", also directed "Young Frankenstein"

2. "Young Frankenstein" starred Gene Wilder

3. Wilder guest starred in two episodes of "Will and Grace", which featured Kevin Bacon in its final season.

4. Kevin Bacon, as we all know, can be connected in six steps or less to just about any media icon. Anywhere in the world. Ever.

5. Kevin Bacon is the spokes in a giant media-wheel masterminded by Mel Brooks (the hub) and forged by Zionist Jews intent on ruling the world, crashing planes into stuff, and in general pissing of gentiles and confounding ETS.

Easy shooter.

GE also has shareholders.

Those shareholders like money. GE makes money... they are not JUST some pawn in some large conspiratorial chess match... but they happily whore themselves out for more CASH.

Does this particular system allow for massive manipulation?

Of course it does...if you got the money. But honestly Mr. Tooth, it's not quite as nefarious as you would like to believe. Oh it's rotten... no doubt. But I think the biggest reason your theories are so easy to dismiss is thanks in large part to the relative complexity of society. For example, GE owns those companies because it made financial sense to expand. Aiding and abetting larger political agendas likely didn't come up at the AGM but I wouldn't doubt between lines of blow in the bathroom stall there have been gleeful discussions about how much they can charge for use of their wonderful magical propaganda machine they are building. There are individually some evil fucking people in the world and they USE the system. See, you seem to suggest that 'GE' is an evil entity... and I'm telling you its not as tidy as all that.

However, I don't think you will find too many people who disagree with your position that some corporations have FAR too much power... but these media corporations are tools, certainly, but ultimately they can only be as effective as WE let them be.

You know... "We"... of the ever popular "the people" fame.

The solution to ignorance is information... and we are currently riding along what has been previously dubbed the "information superhighway."

We need to do much better in creating an alternative that is equally entertaining, but intellectually wholesome. If people crave entertainment - we need to tailor our information distribution to pander to the masses. Look at the Daily Show.

Education through entertainment. The model is there - 'we' just need to decide to do something about it.

Obviously there are major issues with what we claim we value in society and what we actually do value based on what we spend our money on. Just think, we claim that we value education but spend far more money on entertainment than we do on education. Just look at how many people claim that their faith is important to them and then note how many of them are in church on oh say a football Sunday.

Hey Pentameter...

I agree. To a point.

THe problem is WE have created a culture of celebrity out here in Western Civilizationville and our beloved Mel Gibson is a superstar because we have made him one. He is part of a very lucrative fantasy world that we all willingly buy into- mostly because these people are so bloody entertaining.

"In the Middle East, innocent people are dying left and right, Iraq is still a nightmare, Kim Jong Il (The Illest) could already have nuclear weapons. People are being slaughtered, people are starving,"

Yes! And all of that is fucking depressing. After you get home from a long day of earning that important "cash" to pay for all of the essential and trivial comforts we need and want- the LAST thing people want to do is deal with dead civilians or how hungry the world is.

FUCK that.

Once the masses have filled their guts with whatever processed crap they can afford- they are typically NOT going to watch c-span or anything that will lead them down the path of awareness... nope, most "common folk" will sit in front of the boob tube and watch reality TV programming and then later download MP3s and porn off the interweb!

We are a society of distraction. We even created a disease for all of us to feel better about our failing ability to concentrate: ADD.

It's perfect. (And by perfect I mean tragic.)

Our collective apathy and desire to escape reality is a precondition of simply being human. We are little more than organic bored putty and brilliant, evil, manipulative mother fuckers take full advantage of the fact that we are uniquely programmed to crave fantasy. It's not really a conspiracy (per se)- we just simply let it happen. Most people are vaguely aware that we are getting screwed- but ultimately they don't give a shit... just so long as they are entertained.

I definitely think its time for a revolution... only problem is we can't cast Mel Gibson as the hero for at least another couple of years. Fuck.

hmmm... I wonder if Bruce Willis is available?

I never watch the news, I find it to depressing. I gave up after the 24/7 Hurricane Katrina coverage when my son asked me - "Mommy, why don't those people tell the mean Katrina lady to use her manners and stop being mean to people and making them sad."

you guys watch E?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Nobody WANTS to watch E! but it just happens!

There you are, minding your own business, flipping through stations after absorbing a pleasant documentary on the History Channel about Vikings, (but you had to switch stations, 'cause another damn show about WWII submarines was coming on) and the next thing you know, BLAM-O!!! It's a rapid fire assault of brilliant colors and dazzling sound! It pummels your senses into submission as its hyped product placement and plastic celebrity gossip is woven into the fabric of your very being! It is only after you taste the bile that has risen up and filled your mouth from seeing the same clip of a gaunt Nicole Richie climbing out of a gold plated Hummer for the fifth time that you are able to pull away from this vile media construct of evil and escape!!!

-------------------

See, NOW who's the conspiracy nut?

You see it too and as much as it's kinda funny to laugh about, we both know it's entirely true. They've developed that channel to bombard the public with absolute garbage. Is it any question why it's consistently the most watched crap on cable TV?

Who owns E! Entertainment?

Disney Media Networks, a company whose holdings include:

The ABC Television Network: ABC Entertainment, ABC Daytime, ABC News, ABC Sports, ABC Television, ABC Kids, and Touchstone Television.

Cable Networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPNEWS, ESPN PPV, ESPN Deportes, ESPN International, ESPN Classic Sport Europe, ESPN Latin America, ESPN Asia, ESPNU, ESPN2 HD, Disney Channel (cable and satellite), International Disney Channels, Toon Disney, SOAPnet, ABC Family Channel, JETIX Europe, JETIX Latin America, A&E Television Networks (37.5% equity; includes A&E, The History Channel, The Biography Channel, History International, A&E International), Lifetime Entertainment Services (50% equity; includes Lifetime Television, Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime Real Women, Lifetime Radio for Women, Lifetime Home Entertainment), E! Networks (39.6% equity; includes E! Entertainment Television, The Style Network), Buena Vista Television, Walt Disney Television

http://www.freepress.net/ownership/chart.php

It's notable that Disney has joint ownership in the following with Hearst Corp according to wikipedia:

# A&E Television Networks (Shared with Disney and NBC Universal)
# ESPN (owns 20%; shared with Disney, which owns the other 80%)

Hearst owns Popular Mechanics magazine who published the article "Debunking the 9/11 Conspiracy" which was basically one of the many propaganda campaigns the government, through its media lackeys, has perpetrated on the American public.

Listen, man, we are cattle to these people. These people are vampires.

On a side note, FA brought this to my attention: http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/08/06/aol-proudly-releases-massive-amounts-of-user-search-data

Read that closely. Now step back and take a look at other things is a different perspective. Ask yourself, "what if" this ETS fucker isn't so crazy after all.

This makes me glad my television lives in my closet. I knew nothing about this Mel Gibson thing until I read this post and then went and googled it.

The only reason I have cable at all anymore is for my internet connection.

I miss out on a lot of things that I later find out about and am glad I missed out on them in the first place. Then I get mad that somebody mentioned it and made me aware of it at all.

The end.

News flash: Frank Sinatra was also a performing monkey.
Did he play an instrument?
Did he compose music?
Did he write his own songs?
No, all he did was sing. He is the father of the modern pop artist. Back in his day, his first bits of popularity were with teenage girls.

Now, granted, he is one of the best singers of all time. And was a fairly good actor too.
I would take your 50 Cent comparison a different way. Namely, that Sinatra probably made tons more money than Count Basie ever did (and they played together).

It's all a conspiracy!!!

Paris Hilton hasn't done anything stupid in a while, so those vile bastards over at the E! Network obviously set up this entire fiasco so that people would watch their ridiculous channel more this week.

-------------------

That's part of it. But see my review below for the rest of the story.

Am I the only one who notices that E! Entertainment is using mind control? I'm being dead serious here... Their programming uses subliminal messages to keep us dumb and inactive. That channel sucks you in like a fucking vortex and you don't even realize you're watching it until you've seen the entire rotation of programming twice through. Then you're like, "WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING!?!?" And you get disgusted with yourself and change the channel.

More than conspiracy theory or anything of that source, I agree with Bubba (waaayyyy down somewhere in the middle of this thread) that it's not so much a conspiracy theory driven by a hush-hush government so much as what sells, plain and simple. Cold, hard cash.

Maybe certain folks within the government warn certain media folk to give more air time to a certain issue or lay off another--who among us can say so for sure?

What I CAN say for sure is that more Americans than I'd like to admit know the name of Britney Spears's kid because they WANT to know (e.g. they will pay $$ to buy a magazine and read all about it).

--------------------

You're missing the point. People will care about the issues they are familiar with and understand. They are familiar with these people in the scandal mags because they are constantly shoved down our throats like some sick live-action soap opera...a parallel universe of entertainment hell.

Again, it's all part of the bread and circus. Humans will buy whatever they are TOLD to buy in the long run. They could dress jaygreening up in the right packaging and throw enough money at him and make him a fucking star even though he has no perceptible talent or redeemable features of any kind, but the public wouldn't care. If they were being conditioned to care, that's what they'd do.

Take radio and the billboard charts...

You think that the top songs are the ones everyone likes? Not necessarily. They are the ones that get the heaviest rotation on radio, which is bought by a quid pro quo system between the labels and the stations. Eventually, this translates into album sales because lazy idiots who don't know what they like walk into a record store with this stupid song they've heard 1000 times stuck in their head. It's also the 'coolness' factor among adoescents. They hear something on the radio 1000 times, they think buying it will make them cool, because that's what's 'in' right now. But it's not the tastes of consumers that create playlists ultimately, it's the rewards offered by the labels.

It's about market penetration. And market penetration is, at its heart, a form of mind control. Call me crazy if you like, but it's true. The game is about getting in the market with your product and covering every square inch of it until your brand (actor, artist, etc.) becomes a synonymous thought associated with some basic need such as entertainment.

Case in point... Let's say an uberuser was convicted of a serious crime. Does it make a difference whether you hate them or love them if you bought a newspaper with the story of their crime? No. Does it make a difference how well-known the user was? Yes. I think we can all agree that we'd spend far more of our money to find out why Bart Cilfone shot his mother than why "cool_user#27027" shot his mother.

ANYONE or ANYTHING can become circus. The potential is everywhere for some breakout story. But it's usually more about how much money is thrown at it than how much of a story is actually there.

Did you know that government research into psychedelic drugs and sensory deprivation has been used by advertising firms to more accurately target the minds of the audience?

The point is, our televisions could choose to focus on the real issues that affect our world, but that would not only endanger their business directly by pissing off their sponsors, but it would require them to do actual investigating and compete directly with the 10,000 other stations who are conditioning their audience to care about some other crap story. When those people discover you aren't covering said crap story, they will change the channel.

The argument about money is more appearance than fact. The 'free-market' excuse is being used as a tool for any number of dubious enterprises.

It has always been my experience that alcohol doesn't change who you are, just how you express it. If someone is an asshole when they're drunk, that person is an asshole who just hides in under normal conditions.

my favorite celeb crap thing was on the morning radio i heard that a magazine (forgot which one) was charging like a dollar more or something for the issue with pics of brad and angelina's spawn to cover the cost it took to have exclusive rights to those photos.

so like any good consumer, i picked it up in line at the grocery store, looked, commented on the kid having a future career as a whore because she has her mother's mouth and put it back.

i think that's the last thing i actively looked at that had to do with a celebrity.

wait no, i wondered why they named the child shiloh for a minute cuz i remember that being a book about a beagle or a basset hound or something that i read in like first grade or something.

This brings us back to good ol' Mel. Why spend so much time and money covering his drunk ass? Well, because a massive amount of people want to read about it and hear about it. They don't give a shit about Billy Robinson from down the block getting drunk and fighting with cops. He's NOBODY. Mel is...well, Mel is Mel...and Mad Max...and Martin Riggs (Lethal Weapon)...and William Wallace...etc...

There is a ridiculously large number of people that want to know more about celebrities and DON'T want to know about anything else, and the media caters to these people like a drug dealer to the addicts.

"Why NO ONE Should Give A Flying Fuck About What Mel Gibson Said During His Arrest"

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So why do you care enough to post this? You're only feeding fuel the the fire and are no better than the one-sided media.

The media is a corporate money making organization and they know what people want to view. People don't want to watch young boys getting killed at war. They want to see the privileged movie stars getting what they deserve.

Get over it; stop posting about it and drawing attention to the situation and then maybe the media and everyone will else, will stop talking about it and return to the important things at hand which doesn't involve this post.

The thing about Iraq, global warming, and all the other major events on this planet is that the idiot masses can't comprehend them, let alone control them. They CAN, however, wrap their brains around Mel's anti-semetic blooper, or Tom Cruise's desperate cry for couch-hopping attention. Not only does it give them a common topic of conversation; it also comforts them to think that someone out there is even more idiotic and pathetic than they are.

I read a couple blogs that are celebrity based, but it's mostly an extention of my fashion jones, since celebrities are the ones wearing the hot stuff, what with the whole price tags and all. I don't read Go Fug Yourself because I care about what Paris Hilton is saying or doing, I read it to get a giggle over the fact that it looks like she got dressed by hopping in a duffel bag with a wolverine and a few bolts of fabric. And the people in those blogs aren't my heroes, thank god.

Don't discount the suckiness of CNN/major media these days, either. I had CNN on more or less non-stop from maybe middle school onward, but I can't even watch it any more. The proportion of celebrity gossip to actual news of the world got SO ridiculously skewed towards the former that I just couldn't take it any more. Don't forget to blame the idiotic 24-hour news cycle when you get on a tear about this shit. Why they can't just say "you know what, that's all we got, so here's an re run of The People's Court" is beyond me - it's all owned by the same handful of rich assholes anyway.

Malibu - Forces loyal to Mel Gibson pounded Beverly Hills again today with the largest rocket barrage yet in the Braveheart director's war against the Jews.

In the fiercest fighting to date, blue-face painted personal assistants defied a punishing ground assault on the star's Malibu estate by hundreds of vice-presidents-in-charge-of-things sent by a coalition of Jewish studio heads.

The short-range christfire missiles are believed to have been supplied by CBN, whose chairman, the Rev. Pat Robertson, is no stranger to bomb throwing. A spokesperson for the company denied the charge and called for an immediate cease fire, followed by an evening prayer service and potluck supper.

One of the missiles landed near a kibbutz in neighboring West Hollywood, triggering fears Gibson might 'go after the gays' next, and officials worried the Lethal Weapon star may possess longer range missiles which could reach all the way to Disney Studios in Burbank.

President Bush is closely monitoring the situation, but sources indicate he actually preferred Bruce Willis in the Die Hard films.

Press secretary Tony Snow denied reports the administration is merely waiting until the fighting spills over onto the estate of Barbra Streisand, which would almost certainly trigger a long planned takeover by U.S. troops.

Jewish leaders have demanded an apology and reparations, including refunds of ticket sales going back to at least Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Shit like this: http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/3500331

Gibson has been politically outspoken in Hollywood for a while now, and he's not just some Susan Sarandon talking about the environment and shit. He, like Charlie Sheen who was likewise lambasted after his questioning of the official 9/11 story, has been the target of smear campaigns in the media that are concerted and premeditated.

That's my take on it. They're basically saying that anyone who criticizes Israel will be labeled.

^ Awesome review.

Our hearts cannot bleed for everyone all the time - we wouldn't be able to function, but I do think we've gone too far the other way. What seems unusual about america to me is the prevelance of the attitude that if someone is on the bottom rung of society, it is entirely their own fault. Now while this may be the case in america itself (I don't know it well enough to either confirm or contradict this), when the same "you're fucked because you're lazy" attitude starts being applied to the people of other nations, specifically those that America has had a hand in the corruption and subjugation of, there is a serious lack of awareness on display.

We're orchestrating our own destruction so we can eat popcorn and play on a PSP. And that's not just harsh, it's fucking stupid.

That's beside the point. The point is that there are people and groups of people who are legitimately threatening to the lives of Jewish people. As a society, shouldn't we be more worried about them than this jerk?

Is he sending Neo-Nazis the message that it's all right to hate Jews? I doubt it. I'm pretty sure that a person who's teetering on the edge of becoming a Nazi didn't shave their head and buy some Doc Martens when they heard that Mel hates Jews.

America has done it to itself. We live in a country with issues to be sure, but nothing like the grand scale of the world at large. We are a bunch of privleged cunts and we don't like to take interest in the things that don't affect us. Death, war and famine happen to "other" people in other places. If it doesn't impact our self serving little lives, we don't give a damn.

Now the faults of others that the media has lifted onhigh are a different story all together. We LIKE to feel superior, once again a self serving, self righteous attitude. We struggle along in our little lives and always take perverse pleasure in the personal downfall of those with more than us. We feel that it is somehow karmic.

The two come together in the media for several reasons. ONE is that the media conglomerates knows these facts and USE them. The old slight of hand, they show you what you want to see while picking your pocket with the other hand. War isn't a big draw, suffering doesn't make for good entertainment because even in the backs of our minds we know they are REAL people and we shy away at responsibility. But celebs, OH CELEBS, now those are people we can feel smug about in their public humiliation. Our jealously of their lives make them perfect targets. We demonize them for their personal faults, the very same ones we hide away in our little lives where the general public can't see. We click our tongues, waggle our fingers and gossip about them because it looks on the outside that these people have been taken down a peg. It's sad really considering how many of us have the same issues but we figure that celebs live in the public eye and should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us because of that fact. We feel better about our useless little existences when the powerful are brought low.

If we could see first hand, some how share in the visceral experience... the bodies, the carnage, the destruction, the wholesale breakdown of the basics of civilization I think we'd care more. The bodies of the soliders returned, the impact their deaths have upon their families and way of life. People just like us, in pain....suffering, we see that. But the media uses those as human interest stories with the unspoken warning that "It could happen to YOU!". We avoid it. It makes us feel bad. It makes us wonder about our little place in the world and how useless we are against such things even though WE as the People should be controling the actions of our country. We are herded into thought patterns, beliefs and inaction. And we go willingly so we can continue to pretend there's nothing wrong.

America, tis a sad, narrow minded little place when looked at in the harsh light of reality.

I believe the proportion of "entertainment" magazines purchased and read to real literature purchased AND read (which does not included any tabloids, or any ETS posts) is a fair indication of the overall state of society. And when more people care about what some Jew-hating superstar--as if we haven't seen it before--or what drunken slut got caught doing the sex with which other drunken slut than...a whole lot of other stuff, I think we're doing pretty shitty.

Most Americans don't give a shit about the rest of the world because we don't think we'll ever have to deal with them. Sure, about a year after any major terrorist strikes, some of them MIGHT act concerned, but other than that the vast majority are cloistered little fucks. BUT IT WILL ALL CHANGE WHEN THE PERFECT VIRUS IS UNLEASHED.
