(Follow-up to http://www.ubersite.com/m/91294)

Okay, my pretties, here's who signed up as interested participants for the Uber music project:

BranDo - 12 string guitar, vocals
CaptainThorns - Bass guitar, auxiliaries (horns), vocals, mixing/mastering
DudeThatsBOSH - Lead guitar
ETS - Vocals, guitars, drums, mixing/mastering
HighVoltage900 - High vocals
maiorano84 - Piano
Merlina - Mandolin, vocals, guitar, piano
moneyshotforyou - Vocals, acoustic guitar
Orgasmatron - Vocals
Professional_Peon - Vocals
Rad - Kontrabass, bass guitar
Sacrilicious - Auxiliary percussion (maracas, tambourine)
Samo - Drums, keys, guitar
sicosemen - Drums
skrapmetal - Theramin, analog monosynth, guitar, bass guitar
sparkle_pink - Clarinet, piano
UnderOathMeal - Lead guitar

First and foremost, please either e-mail me (captainthorns.at.gmail.com) or leave your memo on this post indicating whether you are still interested/capable of participating. No hard feelings if not, as the list of Uberers interested is more than sufficient for a recording, for the time being.

Secondly - moneyshotforyou had suggested the idea of auditions. This is a good idea for a myriad of reasons, but most importantly for determining part assignments, and to ensure we're all seriously interested in participating and moving forward. Reply here with a link to a recorded performance of yourself on your instrument(s) - if you do not have a medium for storing a link to your file, you can e-mail it to me and I will store it on a web server and post the link here. That way we can all participate in the audition process. (For those of you that already have material on Uber, linkwhore away...)

Just to clarify - the audition process is not intended as a mode for bashing people's skills - it is strictly to be used for honest feedback and determining best fit. Be honest, but be nice how you say things to each other, mmmkay? No "YOU SUCK!!eeklelventy+one DIE" trash talk, please. Everyone who wants to participate, WILL be able to participate...this is not meant to exclude anyone.

And finally - we need to decide on a song. Pink Floyd had the greatest number of votes, but a specific song was not mentioned. I am not very familiar with their music aside from the ones that get radio play here ("Money", "Brick in the Wall", "Machine", "Comfortably Numb", "Wish You Were Here"), so cast your ideas/votes for a Pink Floyd song...once we've agreed on a song, I'll need a copy of the song for assembling a click track, as I do not own any of their albums (yeah, I know, I'm a heathen!).

For those interested, here is the list of the song ideas and votes from the last post:

Pink Floyd - ??? - 3
Any blues-rock number - 2
Beatles - "I Am the Walrus" - 2
Belle & Sebastian - "Your Cover's Blown" - 2
Deep Purple - "Smoke On The Water" - 2
Robert Johnson or Clapton - "Crossroads" - 2
Alan Parsons - "Games People Play" - 2
Beatles - "Yer Blues" - 1
Blind Lemon Jefferson - "Blacksnake in My Room" - 1
Blue Öyster Cult - "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" - 1
Chuck Berry - "Johnny B. Goode" - 1
Devo - ? - 1
Doobie Brothers - "China Grove" - 1
Eagles - "Hotel California" - 1
Eagles - "Take It Easy" - 1
Elvis - "Money Honey" - 1
Guns 'n Roses - "Welcome to the Jungle" - 1
Hank Williams - "Jambalaya" - 1
Muddy Waters - "Hootchie Cootchie Man" - 1
Prince - "Little Red Corvette" - 1
Queen - "We Are The Champions" - 1
Queen = "Death on Two Legs" - 1
Richie Valens - "La Bamba" - 1
Stevie Ray - "The Sky is Crying" - 1
Taj Mahal - "She caught The Katy" - 1
T-Bone Walker - "Stormy Monday Blues" - 1
Various - "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess) - 1
Wilson Pickett - "Mustang Sally" - 1

Okay, all that being said - audition material is due by Friday August 18th, 11:59pm CDT.

Giving plenty of time here as (a) it's only fair, (b) I'm in the middle of recording Davros' project, and (c) I'm starting a new job on August 21st so I've got plenty to keep busy with here during my last two weeks with the current company, thanks to 3Q audits. I'll log on to Uber as able, but e-mail is the best way to reach me.

In fact, I probably won't be on Uber from work much at all for at least a few months...but I started this project, and damn if I'm not gonna do my best to stick through with it and see it to the end.

Hasta luego, amigos...

People have until midnight tonight to cast song votes and submit auditions. I'll tally up vote after that. Pink Floyd is still the lead contender.

Queen = "Death on Two Legs" - 1

add another one to that vote. That was a kick ass song.

I'd audition, but my guitar skills lie more in the hard rock/metal category. that and queen just scares me when it comes to guitar.

I wish I saw this before... Weird in the fact that I picked Alan Parson's project "games people play" without seeing others had picked it. Good luck with your Floyd song...I recommend "Young Lust".

You know I'm game.

I guess I vote "Another Brick in the Wall" or "Comfortably Numb" out of what's there.

I CALL SHOTGUN ON THE SOLO!

Um, sorry but I called dibs on the solo long ago. And everyone knows dibs trumps shotgun any day of the week.

yeah, but we saw your audition tape and puked.

Tell you what. You pick an instrument. My $100 says that I can get the majority vote on uber stating I'm better at playing it than you are.

Till you can take me up on this, shut your cock slot, bitch.

I would actually take you up on that, but I don't have time or a digi-cam to fuck with it.

I'll see if I can get a recording of me playing some improv blues out by then.

If not, feel free to scratch me from the list.

As for a song selection, I'm sure I can improvise about anything, but I would prefer it to be Blues. Maybe some Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top?

This has "total mess-a-thon/noise-a-thon" written all over it.

It was hard to produce quality music with just 4 people, in the same room, practicing 5 times a week...I cannot see THIS being pulled off, unless, at the end, it ends up being all Captain Thorns, no one else on the tracks.

I'm probably not going to have the time in the next few weeks to record anything. Double shifts at work, and a few trips coming up prevent my being able to commit to anything.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to participate, but I don't want to flake out at the last second.

If I can somehow come up with audition material I will, but again, I don't want to be "that guy"

I agree. Pink Floyd was my first thought due to really basic music that is not difficult to play yet the mix of sounds is majestical.

If this turns out well we can try to do something truly complicated on the side. We could put together a harmonized mix of little wing.

How fucking cool would that be?

I guess I'm going to have to put my thoughts on ETS' musical talents aside for this project.

*sigh*

Anything from Pink Floyd would make for a great first song. I already know the progression, so soloing on it will be a cinch.

Do you like my song selections below? I figure with the acoustic intro, the use of 12 strings in the second part and the fact we could so harmonize the lead guitar and vocals this would be cool as shit as long as ETS and the captain can put it together.

While I can physically play no actual instrument and my voice makes the baby Jaysis cry tears of blood, somehow I do have an album of songs. I believe only a handful of people here on Uber have heard my stuff, mostly because it's something I know the general crew here would not get into. Last winter I spent about a month gathering tribal beats, native chants, and ambient arias then mixed and created over 20 songs. After I streamlined it down to the best 12, I polished them up and remastered them. The project was called "Enochian" and the album "The Pangea Engine."

I created a site on MySpace Music just to get my work heard. I was pleasantly surprised by the response. Encouraged, I submitted 4 Enochian tracks from "The Pangea Engine" to LastFM.com and was accepted into their streaming audio playlists. Those 4 tunes can now be heard world wide along side such other genre artists as Enigma, Deep Forrest, Delerium and AfroCelt SoundSystem. Since I, eh... illegally used some of the samples, I can never actually make a profit off the music, but that was never my concern. I just finished working on a handful of remixes for a local vocal artist who does a kinda retro-pop thing.

While I probably would be little to no use in the actual creation of the song, I would love to have an oppertunity to do a mix of the final track. Perhaps do something even a little different with the tune, a sort of specialized remix. Just an idea...
