A Moon for the Doubtful Offspring
Who'd have thought it?
It's only 2035 and I'm going to live on the moon.
I don't recall the day that is remembered on the moon as our nation's birth-date 21 July 1969, no, I'm not that old, in fact I wasn't born then. But a man who's name will live forever in our culture, a man who will have libraries and schools and countless roads named after him first stepped foot on our planet.
However I do just remember the final few USA shuttle trips into space, Atlantis I think was the very final trip but I was only a teenager and didn't pay proper attention.
They'd had some disasters over the years and manned space flight's looked at one point to be a thing of the past.
NASA however resolved all the issues and problems that surrounded regular space flight and had made it perfectly safe and affordable by 2015.
Then of course they were using Series One 'Buses' initially run by NASA only but quickly followed by the Gates Foundation, Trump and our own UK's Virgin companies (at which point they were using far more advanced Series Three's).
By the time Series Six(a) 'Super Buses' were available so was the first of the living quarters that had slowly been springing up around the desolated landscape.
I had actually owned an acre of the moon. I had a certificate that my ex girlfriend had bought me one Christmas (due to my unhealthy liking of the dead rock). I'd kept it for no other reason than fascination.
I'd sold it in 2025 to a corporation who had already built premises on my plot (and many other people's plots by all accounts) and therefore were up to their eyebrows in lawsuits. They were keen to get a quick settlement so I took their 1.25 Million Pounds.
Relocating was OK, the flight was going to cost 400K (by all accounts about the price of a semi detached house way back in 2006 when the shuttle had ceased) and the living quarters were another 900K.
After selling my house on Earth I'd have plenty of money to retire and live the quite luxurious life afforded to the first Moonian's. The temptations available were endless. When you can't get 'outdoors' they damn well better make indoor exciting!
They'd been telling us for years that this was going to be a possibility. That it was only going to be 5 years then 10 years away. I'm not sure that many of us really believed it.
I'd always clung onto the hope that it would, in my lifetime, become a reality.

GET YOUR ASS TO MARS!!!!
I think that would be more likely. Doesn't Mars have Ice?? It would be expensive to transport all that aqua to the moon.
