So... now that I've managed to get into fights with both Darko and Loki this week, (and Indoninja, but that's normal) I figure I might as well address something that's been pissing me off the last couple of months.
NerfHerder, the only time you bother to grace us on this site is on Thursdays, when you stroll along tossing out -2's to anyone with SPT in their title. You never bother giving a reason, but then again, I suppose you don't think you have to.

And yet, as you go about your ickle little crusade, you also don't bother to contribute anything to this site. Well, at least not in quite a while. Why exactly do you feel the need to become one of the Trolls you seem to so desperately hate? Is this your idea of "Taking Back Uber?" Personally, I think entering various contests and writing quality posts would be a better method. I guess it's just my opinion, but I don't see how you have the fucking right to be so judgemental when you offer us back nothing in return.
Of course, you and Loki can grind your teeth and think back the these fabled "Old Days" of Uber. It's strange, however, because from what I understand... it really hasn't changed.

The way I see it: Ratings are for how much you enjoyed the post. Not how well it was written, or how crappily it was written, or if it was made in paint, or even if it has peeners. (Can you argue with that?)
-2ing anything from this view is valid; but -2ing every SPT is judging a book by it's cover, or judging a person before you know them. If you only read horror stories, you never know how much you would enjoy SPT. (I'm pretty sure Uber has gotten better over the last month or so.)

Awesome. I didn't think anyone even noticed what I was doing. I'm not trying to "take back Uber" or any such nonsense like that. I'm not self-inflated enough to think that I can make much of a difference. But you kind of painted me to be a writer's hero, which was pretty cool.
I'll probably continue -2ing SPT posts. I simply don't like the theory of it. Something like APW, I believe, contributes to this site while attaching a label such as SPT to "I FARTED ON MY DOG AND MY DOG FARTED ON ME LOL! (NO CONTENT) is at the very least redundant. I see enough shit on this site without it being excusable. Do you people have no pride?
As for my lackluster writing consistency, I have no excuse for you there. Before the summer started, I told myself that I was going to write at least three stories every week. If your theory of "trying to take back Uber" was correct, I would be in very poor form. As it is, I saw (and still see) myself as someone who is waaaaay past their prime on this site. I stay out of the way of the pointless drama. I only read and review users who I know and make the journey to read new authors (Axolotl and Nath, basically) now and again. There just aren't that many good ones still chugging along today.
Plus, when you're writing real fiction, you tend to write for an audience -- whether that is an audience of one or for the masses. I used to write for the masses, then I was only writing for one person and now she isn't really my audience anymore. I don't want to sound pompous here, but when I write anything for Uber, I feel like the people who click on my post will look at all the text and decide it's not worth their time. And if they aren't going to take the time, why should I?
In conclusion, these -2s for SPT, they're not a rallying cry. They're death throes.
I'll probably stick around this post for a bit to answer any questions but I'd rather not take this most heated, if it can be helped.

That's not the way I look at it at all. My issue is the fact that he no longer contributes ANYTHING (good or bad) to this site, so I fail to see why he feels the need to -2 all the SPT posts. I'd like to start by saying that if you do not want to be "group(ed)...in with hundreds of others before" then don't use the SPT label. You grouped yourself. You're only condoning the use of and continuation of SPT. I, however, am not on the SPT bandwagon. I never have been and never will be. The notion of it on THIS site, which already produces so much shit, is pointless.
Now for the constructive criticism. You've taken a very popular topic (alters) and decided to put your own unique twist on it, right? Right. Editing pictures in MSPaint for hilarity. Okay. The medium has been used before, but i reserved judgement.

NerfHerder, you're a writer, and you have a very high average rating. On a site filled with people who enjoy rape and penii, I know it's hard to maintain a +1.62. Still, writing isn't the only thing on Uber. I write a lot, and that's my primary catergorization of myself, but I know my writing doesn't appeal to the common denominator.
That's why I post things like Alter-Peeners in MS Paint, or Lesbian Porn of the 1700s, or the various shit that has come from my account. Ubersite produces shit. That's the point, shit is funny. SPT's been around since 2003, it's not going to stop, and -2ing every single SPT post on the front page won't stop it. If this hadn't been labeled SPT, would you have given it the same rating?
I drew weird boobs, peeners, etc. Sure, it's been done before. Habeeb started the whole MS Paint peener thing, but now Cyst Master does peeners also, as well as a great many others. Perhaps it's been done better, but it entertained enough people to give me large +2 streaks, broken only by you and Sphagnum. If I didn't put on NSFW, you would have -2ed me for not doing that.
I have to disagree with you. Judging by the reviews below you, MS Paint peeners still are funny to dozens of people. I'll keep writing quality fiction, but don't except me, or anyone else, to stop with the peeners.

And you defended yourself in a manner that doesn't permit rebuttal, which is fine. You have your style and I have mine and we should leave it at that.
I suppose Razor's recent post just got to me, though. It's no secret that I'm not exactly a regular poster anymore and because of that I don't fully understand the mechanics of this Web site anymore. Because to see you say that this is just how things are is more of a wake-up call than anything else.
Nevertheless, I'm going to keep giving SPT posts a -2. It doesn't do much, perhaps, in the long run. It probably doesn't prevent the post from getting any fewer hits or heat but I feel like it's the only thing I can do as just one user at this point, aside from not joining the legions of popular peener posters posting pornography.

In reality, Ubersite is sooooo much different than it was when I signed up. Almost every post on the front page was written well, and about something other than which user was cuddling with their kitty or puppy. Today, it's a glut of shitposts with some good stuff peppered in.
The sad thing is that for the most part, the old way is lost. I remember spending entire workdays on Uber, not being bored and enjoying everything I read. Now it just draws a big fat fucking "meh," and honestly, if I wasn't having problems with some of my software here at work, I would actually rather be working than reading 99% of the posts on this site.

And that's fine, Pentameter. The way I look at it, you are a major contributor to this site and your opinion is QUITE valid. The thing is, I completely understand it, too. SPT can be somewhat ridiculous at times, individuals *coughn00bscough* don't seem to grasp exactly how it works and sometimes there are far too many posts. I rarely engage in it.
NerfHerder's actions disturb me because while he feels he can attack an entire sub-genre of Uber, he does nothing to actually change this trend or (even worse) he puts nothing out there for us to see what HE thinks is acceptable. While my fight with Loki yesterday was very much along these same lines, I must applaud her for at least trying to to make her own mark here in recent times.
During my war of words with Darko yesterday, he brought up an interesting point. (or maybe it was Indoninja, I dunno) Anyhow, it was said that NerfHerder's desire to -2 all SPT was really no different than my desire to +2 all APW. While this is ultimately a valid argument, once you break down all the surrounding factors, it falls apart. My positive reinforcement of APW is done as I also, almost every single week, make an APW post. I put myself out there along with the rest of the users who feel this is a cool concept. And I have taken my random -2's for a myriad of reasons, and for the most part, accepted them. On top of this, I'm sorry, but I think drive-by +2's are just slightly different than -2's. Often this is done, not so much for the particular user's benefit, but for the site as a whole.
Perhaps certain users are abhorrent to change. Maybe this is why individuals like NerfHerder and Loki don't like the way Uber is going, or whatever. I'll be the first to say there are issues that concern me, (see Kaos-King - Darko battle) but when NerfHerder doesn't put himself on the line with the rest of us and Loki doesn't bother to read anything on the front page, I don't see how either of them have any room to take issue.
