...unless you are a football player in small town USA, then she whips of her blindfold and BLATANTLY looks the other way.
This story pissed me the fuck off.
Taken from, commentary below but I am not gonna cut and paste the entire article so if you want to read it click on the link.
http://edition.cnn.com/2006/LAW/08/19/deerdecoy.crash.ap/index.html
"It was intended to be a prank: steal a decoy deer, place it on a country road and watch as motorists swerved to avoid it. It ended with two teenagers suffering serious injuries when their car hit the decoy and rolled into a ditch.
When a judge ruled this week that two boys -- both high school football players -- can complete the football season before they serve 60-day sentences at a juvenile detention center, it caused a division in this northwest Ohio city.
On one side are those who say allowing Dailyn Campbell, a 16-year-old quarterback, and 17-year-old teammate Jesse Howard to play shows that football players get preferential treatment."
-------------------------------------------------------
This is BULLSHIT, how can any judge in their right mind do this sort of shit? What kind of message is he sending? How can the punishment possibly mean anything if it doesn't really cost the kids? That is like saying: "GO TO YOUR ROOM, but after the movie is over, when you would have gone to bed ordinarily..."
The will not learn anything from this and the next thing you know one of them will kill someone in a drunk driving accident because they think that they are above the law.
--------------------------------------------------------
Judge Gary McKinley said, "I shouldn't be doing this, but I'm going to. I see positive things about participating in football."
-------------------------------------
Yeah, that is awesome judge, because it has clearly taught them common sense enough. I mean its not like they were stupid enough to block traffic on a busy street that led to serious injury. Oh wait...
How do the families of the injured teenagers feel? "Yes, I know that your kid was injured seriously ma'am, but this is FOOTBALL. STOP BEING SO SELFISH AND WANTING BLIND JUSTICE."
------------------------------------------
"The 17-year-old's father, C.J. Howard, said members of the community have made crude remarks when his family shops at a nearby Wal-Mart store and that his younger children are taunted by older youth when they play in the yard.
He said his son would not be the focus of such attention if he didn't play football.
"I don't know why it's about football players. Why isn't it about student council or track?" Howard asked. "He admitted what he did and he faced the consequences like a young man should.""
---------------------------------------------
See, that's the thing, he didn't face the consequences, he DID get a slap on the wrist and it WAS because he played football. Man, if I had every dine anything this stupid when I was younger my dad would have BEAT MY ASS, not defended me. He probably would have beaten the judges' ass as well for not giving me a harsh enough sentence.
The injuries sustained by the two teenagers are pretty serious as well, one of them has sustained brain damage and the other suffered MULTIPLE broken bones, including a neck and has had over 10 surgeries to try and correct the damage that was done.
Oh, well, at least they got to finish the football season.

Do you know what it means to be a pro footballer in the UK earning £100K a week? These guys drink and drive, fight, bully and rape people and get away with it.
We have 19 year old Kids earning 40K a week. It's starting to fuck up society. Lady Justice is turning a blind eye too.

I have no problem with the sentance, they did something fucking dumb and really didnt mean to hurt anyone, my problem was with that fucking judge letting them finish the season before serving their sentance...

Sweet post... made even sweeter with METALLICA!
Of course the diplomat in me says that sometimes people DO deserve breaks, and if the participants were truly just being fucking stupid, then there has to be some room for reasonable punishment for their reasonable intentions.
I dunno... 60 days does seem pretty weak though.

I had a deer hit me once. It came from out of nowhere and ran into the side of my Jeep. By the way screaming in terror won't necessarily keep something from happening.
To think that people set up those deer blinds and wait around for hours to nail a deer and I did it with a 1988 Wrangler without even trying. I think that makes me a badass or would if the thing hadn't run away while I continued to scream - real girly high pitched scream too.
==================
I hit a deer once, it scared the living shit out of me but it still hasnt slowed me down, I just pay more attention. My parents live in a rural area south of Calgary and I was on my way home one night ripping along the back country roads and I came over the brow of a hill and right there in the middle of the road was a big fucking buck, like the game...
Luckily for me it bolted and I caught it on the passenger side of the car, it rolled up and over writing my car off. I pulled over and puked my guts out because I realized how close I had come to dying...

I've driven home numerous times through the parkway going 50-60 mph and never have I hit a deer, fallen tree, corpse in the road, etc. I'm not saying it's not a stupid thing to do, but they were obviously either driving too fast or not paying attention.
I don't know if placing fake animals in the road is even considered illegal.
------------------------------------
How many deer have jumped out in front of you? Its easy to "never hit a deer" if a deer has never jumped out in front of your car. A deer can run out 5ft in front of your car. Then it doesn't even matter if you are going 25mph, you will hit it. I have seen damage to cars where the deer ran into the side of the car.
The only thing I can say is they shouldn't have swerved. That was stupid, but they did it. It wasn't their fault they were put into the situation to have to make that decision. It was two jocks faults. Now if they put the deer on the shoulder or on a straight road then I might agree with you. They placed it on top of hill that curved.........

There was a guy in the town where I grew up, who was a rent-a-cop. He acually owned a Ford Crown victoria that was painted white like a cop car with the disco lights on the roof.
He got arrested for impersonating a police officer for sitting in his car, in his rent a cop uniform, with a hair dryer, pointed at traffic.

Authorities say a group of teenagers stole the two-legged decoy deer from a yard, rigged it so it would stand and placed it in the road on November 18. The decoy was at the top of a hill on the curving road, Roby said, and he didn't see it until it was right in front of his car.

Metallica have always sucked cock as far as I'm concerned, and I'm a rocker! Music has to be good to listen to, not just impressive. Metallica's musical talents impress me but are totally wasted on the shitty music they make / made.
============
The only good musician on that band is Kirk Hammet, James Hetfield just hold a guitar and Lars Urich, while he has impressive chops as a drummer has no discernable talent.
Cliff Burton was the back bone of that band and it was a sad day when he got smushed under a bus in Sweden...

Back in high school, my friends and I played a great prank over halloween. We abducted a manniquin and dressed it in a stolen football player's uniform and filled it with a bunch of red jello.
Then we threw it off the railroad bridge overpass onto the highway so it busted open and leaked red jelly all over the road.
Good times.

Do you like all of their stuff or are you like Spook and hate their new stuff and call everyone who likes it a tool?
--------------
Metallica absolutely revolutionized metal. There's no two ways about that, Bob.
When Load came out however, everything changed. CORPORATE SELL OUT CRAP, end of discussion. James even dipped into a COUNTRY song. What the fuck? I know they are all CLASSICALLY trained musicians, but country? Fuck off, James. You know?
And now ... oh my god now you've got me REALLY irked ... NOW, JASON FUCKING NEWSTEAD IS HOSTING AN AMERICAN IDOL-ESQUE TV SHOW? BULLSHIT.
AND GODDAMNED KIRK HAMETT CAN'T STOP WHINING ABOUT PIRACY LAWS BEING BROKEN ... FUCKING GREEDY SOB.
It never ends.
Metallica sold out.

I'm sure the judge took many factors into account in making his decision.
Had they ever been in trouble before?
We all make mistakes. Remember that.
I doubt they will forget the boy with brain damage and
what they've done to his life. More than likely, that will
weigh heavily on their minds as they grow older and mature.
--------------------
Who cares if they were in trouble before?!?
The almost killed two people.
They should go to JAIL, not some pansy Juvenile camp.
Crime is crime. If two guys that were, say, 25 years old did this, they would be in prison.
Fuck America. I'm sick of this joke of a country.

I am sure that he did, but he also said this:
Judge Gary McKinley said, "I shouldn't be doing this, but I'm going to. I see positive things about participating in football."
The ONLY reason they are not serving their sentance right away is beacuse they are football players and i think that is bullshit.
I hope that the images of what they did do haunt them for years to come and it does make them change into better people. I am all for giving people a second chance but delaying the punishment like this ONLY sends the wrong message.
If this was a band geek that did this (not likely but bear with me...) would the be allowed to go to band camp and then serve their sentance? I think not.

Putting stuff on the SIDE of the road to see peoples REACTIONS is fucking hysterical. We used to put on an orange vest, hold a hairdryer and stand on the side of the road. You should see people slow the fuck down when they think they see a cop.
