When I was in high school, I was heavily involved in my art class at school and learning different mediums. I decided that I had exhausted all possibilities with pencil, and was not yet ready for paint, so it was time to experiment with ink.
My dad had brought home four copies of X-Men #1 (not the Uncanny X-Men, I'm not that lucky). They all had different covers that, as a whole, made up a large picture. I had no interest in comic books, and was confused as to why he would bring me these. I chalked it up to the fact that Dad knew little about the goings on at home outside of who was getting what grades and when it was time to manicure the lawn.
I read the comic and was fascinated by the artwork and the technique that was used. I had never attempted anything like it since I was in love with pencil, and only knew how to draw and shade with that. I knew nothing of hatching, cross-hatching, stippling or their brethren. I decided to try.
The following drawing was the result, referenced from a scene in the comic. I didn't notice until after the drawings were completed that there were major sizing issues. Needless to say, I was pissed, but I kept the drawing.
Lesson learned here: pencil first, ink later.

+2 but it looks like you put Wolfsbane's head on Beast's body.
But what would you expect . . . from a girl?
