FANTASY HOCKEY LE MONTREAL CANADIENS AHHH TABARNAC!!
Sorry Caul, but this would totally get more hits if it were posted by you. No hard feelings, I may be from Alberta but I'm no hillbilly, I love French people!
Anyway, Bob Loblas terrible preseason predictions thread the other day (http://www.ubersite.com/m/92173) got me in the mood to talk hockey. And that in turn got me thinking about fantasy hockey. After that I went and made a sandwhich and watched some TV, but after that it came to me, why not create a hockey pool for that select few of us who care about the sport and hit whore those rare hockey posts onto the most heated list. You guys are a great group.
Anyway, I decided on The Sporting News fantasy site, I prefer it to Yahoo because you can pick up and release players throughout the season, and if you're smart in picking your team the value of your roster will rise and allow you to sign more expensive players. I'm sure most of you have seen it, its a good site and format.
Anyway, go here:
http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/
And go to the FREE fantasy hockey challenge and create a team. When you've named your team it will ask leagues, click "join an existing league" and type in Ubersite as the name. The password is Uber. So go sign up. I know its early, preseason hasnt even started yet, but fuck it. I'll pimp the league again in late September to get more stragglers, but go sign up now.
Anyway, with that out of the way, I can now give you this seasons DonovanMD's NHL Predictions!
Keep in mind the top 3 in each conference are division winners.
West
1. Dallas
2. Nashville
3. Calgary
4. San Jose
5. Detroit
6. Anahiem
7. Edmonton
8. Minnesota
My reasoning here: Dallas is underrated, they have a great mix of veteran leadership and young players, its a toss up as to who wins that division though, SJ, Dal, Anahiem are all cup contenders. The NorthWest will be won by Calgary for a second straight season, now I know what you're all saying "BUT DONOVAN YOU DONT COLORADO OR VANCOUVER MAKING THE PLAYOFFS DESPITE THE NUCKLEHEADS ADDING LUONGO! LOL AND THE OILERS AND WILD ARE IN, UR CRAZY LOLOL!"
Shut the fuck up. Colorado is a brutal team this season, just look at threir roster, or whats left of it. And for you Canucks freaks, Luongo is certainly all he's billed to be, but you still need scoring, and after Naslund/Sedin/Sedin what do you have? Cooke? HAHAHAHAHA. And when Willie Mitchell and his 10 points is patrolling your blueline for 3.5 mil you have problems. As for Minny, they remind me of Calgary, a well coached team who have made some VERY good acquistions this off season, just take a look at their incoming players.
East
1. NY Rangers
2. Ottawa
3. Carolina
4. Buffalo
5. New Jersey
6. Montreal
7. Philadelphia
8. Florida
I dont think there will be many power struggles in the east this year, the same old guard will be there again. I dont see any of those teams falling off the map quite yet. Although Philly could take a downturn if they dont get Gagne signed, hell even if they do. Florida is my surprise pick with their load of talented young players. The Hortons, Weiss, Stewarts of this team will play well this year. They can make the playoffs without Luongo, it was time for a change and they needed more help up front. Many would take Boston, but the Bruins cant buy a winner with their overrated signings, especially Savard. Otherwise I dont see much changing in the east. Toronto will be out of the playoffs by Christmas, despite what Bob Cole and Harry Neale tell you on their CBC Toronto love ins every Saturday night.
Awards
Art Ross: Jaromir Jagr
Unless he gets hurt, I cant see anyone but Jagr winning it again. Although Staal, Ovechkin, Thornton.
Hart Memorial: Jaromir Jagr (Runner up Eric Staal)
Selke: Mike Peca
The Toronto media will blow Peca for how well he plays against the Spezzas, Brieres and Kovalevs of the Northeast division.
Norris: Sergie Zubov
As much as I disagree with him being a Norris candidate, he will get his nod for the finish Dallas has.
Maurice Richard Trophy: Alexander Ovechkin
Duh.
Vezina Trophy: Marty Turco
Turco will have a big regular season, now he just needs a big playoffs.
Jack Adams: Tom Renney NY Rangers
President Trophy: Dallas Stars
Stanley Cup: San Jose Sharks
Conn Smythe: Joe Thornton
Thornton will dispell that BS about him not showing up for the playoffs. This is a very good Sharks team.
Thanks for reading, be sure to JOIN THE UBER HOCKEY POOL!!

YES!! GO SHARKS!!!
I would blow you but you didn't have Thornton win the Hart and Art Ross. What's wrong with you?
But seriously, San Jose needs more consistent goaltending if they want a cup run.

Hahaha, just a guess. Public perception aside I do indeed find wearing a dress a suitable form of public humiliation. Think something up and make a post. I'll accept whatever terms you give me, thats how sure I am of my Oilers.

We should bet something on Edmonton making the playoffs, like the loser has to post a picture of himself in a dress or something. Something good. What do you think Bob? Because I know you have your natural built in Edmonton hate, but this team is still good, and even though they have a below average defence, they've got possibly the best and most balanced forward unit the NHL.
==============
I dunno...
After this week i am not going to be as active around here as i wont be B@W cause i am in school. A dress you say...
I will have to give this some thought.
Sorry about the Edmonton hate thing, I am a Calgarian born and raised so I have had that instilled in me since birth.
Since you are the one suggesting that we wear a dress I am assuming that the prospect is not that unpleasent for you so I might have to come up with some other form of public humiliation.

Edmonton WILL NOT make the playoffs, this is my preseason GUARANTEE. And Dallas will be #2 in the west not #1, their division if FAR to hard. How can you say that my picks blew when most of your are the same??
The presidents trophy will be in the east this year and the jack addams will be Jim Playfair (sp?).
For the other awards, there is always a surprise or two and I really dont feel that I can make a selection other than maybe the Calder going to Malkin...
Other than that you have some excellent points and I am more than willing to eat my crow if The Chuck is in the playoffs.
Oh yeah, while Peca is a great player and will dominate in the face off circle, you will not find a Selke trophy winner from a team in the bottom of the league. Toronto is gonna blow ass this year as per usual...
I LOVE HOCKEY SO MUCH

Edmonton in the West, again.
Toronto in the East (gotta go for the home team), although Montreal looks to be decent if Huet plays well again.
Liverpool wins the Premiership.

I'm an Edmontonian, and even I dont think they'll do that again, or come close. I think they'll make the playoffs for sure, but I dont see another miracle run. One freaking game Oilers, ONE GAME!
And Toronto winning the east?

Man, I was like the only person on the face of the planet who picked Edmonton before the season last year, so I'll do it again since I feel so damn smart for it.
And for Toronto, again, it's the home team thing. Gotta go for the Leafs.
