It's 3:00 am and I can't sleep again.
I'm watching the smoke embrace my fingers as it bleeds out of the half smoked cigarette in my hand, replenishing the haze in the room that had all but faded. I can hear you breathing as you sleep next to me, your hair curled gently across your face. Everything about you is a blatant contradiction to this room. These rooms have become a defining part of our relationship, never having a place to call our own. Living day to day in eager anticipation of the weekend; of the days when we could escape from our lives and our jobs and become us again.
Our beautiful, perfect, dirty little secret.
A fraction of our lives where we exist only for each other, forgetting everything else. A time when I can openly hold your hand, when I can kiss you without worrying about who might see us. I both loved and hated those days. They never lasted long enough. I never felt farther away from you than I did when I was standing right next to you and couldn't touch you.
I can't hear you breathing anymore and it takes me a minute to remember you were never there in the first place. I try to remember the last time we spoke, and when I do I quickly try to forget. I drown in that last goodbye, the end of our perfectly flawed love. The whiskey helps. I try not to feel bad about the room, we never would have shared a place like this anyway. The ghosts of broken lives weighs heavy in this room, forming a haze out of the smoke that bleeds out of the half smoked cigarette in my hand.
It's 3:00 am and I can't sleep again; and it's time for you to go.

And I just read it...sorry to hear about your troubles. I feel like an ass for jumping to conclusions. This was well written regardless of the content and it still deserves a +2.

To clarify since it is kind of vague...This is about my now ex-wife. We are both in the army and during training we weren't allowed to "fraternize", hence the strategic use of hotels on weekends when we could get a pass. I just graduated training last week and she left me the next day. so technically yes, hadtobe, I was fucking a married woman, but she was married to me so it was ok.
As for being back, not so much right now, I'm on leave and doing recruiting stuff so I may have to wait til I get to my duty station before I come back for real. gotta run kids...laters
