President Bush, Condie Rice, and Secretary Rumsfeld (sp) are coming to Salt Lake City this week. They're coming for a presentation/event by the American Legion and Veterans. The mayor, Rocky Anderson, has declined to greet President Bush with cordiality. He is, in fact, going to be staging a protest against Pres. Bush and the war, etc etc.
So my question is: Should the mayor of an American city respect the rank of President, even if he doesn't respect the man and show the courtesy of welcoming President Bush to the city?
Or should he exercise his right as an American citizen to voice his displeasure with the current administration's policies by way of protest?

the office is to be respected if the man isn't
----------
Bahahaha, that's some of the stupidest shit I've ever heard. It's like a perfect excuse for abject apathy.
"Well, you know, I hate what he's doing, and he's a total douche and he's not doing anything for me, and he's fucking up the entire planet, but hey, he's the President, I HAVE to respect him, so I'll just sit down and shut up and let him do whatever he wants."
FUCKING RETARDED ATTITUDE.""
no it isn't
you don't cheapen your own rank and office and give the naysayers opportunity to fudge over the actual issue which is: Bush is a tit.
The news would be 'mayor snubs bush' and hence polite, decent people which is most of america ignore the issue which is: bush is a tit.

As an elected official he should respect the office of the President.
