I am born.
Mummy and Daddy are very happy. They have a sparkle in their eyes and every time they look at me it glows. I love my parents and they love me. I am supported and told how much they cherish me. They love me with equal passion and I am the centre of the world.
Neither of them would ever not-love me, because otherwise they would not have had me. I am in bliss. I am told how beautiful I am, and they show me off to all of their friends.
I spend most of my time with mummy, but when Daddy gets home from work he looks after me. His eyes glow even after being away.
I am three.
Mummy and Daddy are happy. They love me so much. Everything I do is beautiful or special. Maybe I am special. They have never stopped loving me. They don't tell me off, but sometimes they have to remind me what is right and wrong.
Daddy spends every Tuesday night away at the moment. I think it is Tuesday. I love them so much.
I am a little miracle, a gift from the heavens. That's what mummy says. Daddy says the same when he gets time to play with me.
I am seven.
Dad isn't around as much. It makes me sad. I drew him a picture today of us all holding hands outside our house. He has to pay bills, and that means he has to work more.
We do live in a larger house, and Mummy bought me a dog to keep me company. Daddy bought me a new toy. I don't understand it. I love it though, because he gave it to me.
Mummy and Dad don't spend so much time together anymore. They still sit with me often and tell me how special I am. I am still the only thing that matters.
I am Twelve.
Mum and Dad argue a lot. They say they still love me, and are just going through a rough patch, but something is wrong.
Dads sparkle has left his eye. His grey hair is starting to show and he spends more and more time in London working. He says mummy spends too much money on clothes.
Dad came into my room the other day and we had a talk. He said 'What ever happens, I will always love you'. Something is very wrong. Maybe I am not so important.
I am Fifteen.
Mum and Dad got divorced. Turns out the wanker was with a prostitute. His 'business meetings' weren't so legitimate after all. Fuck it. I don't care.
He sent me a card for my birthday the other day. It said 'We will be OK'. What a generic thing to put. Who's going to be ok? Him and I, or mum and him? Fuck it. I don't care. Mum says he never really cared anyway. I am never going to be like him.
Mum sat me down; she called me her 'little man'. Means I got to do something probably. Two years they've been separated and I don't think she understands. I don't think she ever will.
I am Eighteen.
Dad forgot my birthday. I don't really fucking care anymore. I hate him all the same. Mum has a new boyfriend. Paul. He's ok. Tries too hard for his own good though.
I got a new bunch of friends. They're pretty cool. I had to bail on a party this week to go and look after mum. Another breakdown, I guess I'll always be 'her little man'.
My Mum needs me a lot.
I am Twenty One
I graduated. Mum was in hospital. I finally got her to sign the divorce papers. John turned up to collect them and he went to hug me. I pushed him away. He looked at me confused.
I went round to my friends for the first time in a year. My mum called me and said she needed me. I said I would be back tomorrow. I heard the confussion in her voice as I hung up.
My girlfriend loves me.
I am Twenty Five
My mum...well I don't see her so much. Apparently John ended up marrying an internet bride. He didn't come to my wedding so I didn't go to his. Oh well.
My wife is Jane. We love each other so much. In my world she is possibly the most important thing to me. I got a house and job in Milton Keynes, fifty two miles north of London.
I love my beautiful wife.
I am Twenty Nine
My first child! I am so happy. Mum is along way away now, and I don't care, and John, my dad, hasn't been seen in years.
My child is so beautiful, my little baby girl who I would do anything for. My God I love her, we both do, my wife and I.
I am in Bliss.
I am Thirty Four
Business trip, home, work, work, business trip, home, work and work. I guess it's just a vicious circle! I spend as much time as I can at home. Jane isn't happy but I got to do right by my kid.
I love her. My little baby girl...oh I love Jane too, it's just that we grew apart. I'm sure that'll change.
I am Thirty Nine.
I am my Father.
I am the divorce generation.
I am lack of empathy.
I am everything I didn't want to be.
I am my Father.

This has been done already, although in all fairness you did a much better job of it than that riduclous rapist post.
You still, however, failed to elaborate on the whys. It's the weakness of telling a story in bullet points, not unless your some kind of genius who can nail an entire life down to one word or sentance. Even then you'd still feel cheated out of the story.
So yeah; what's the point of this? A warning not to work to hard? Advice to understand the past so as not to repeat it? A moral along the lines of not judging a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes? All of the above?
That's all very well but we already know those questions, re-iterating daytime TV is boring. Go deeper.

I can't empathize with this. Worth reading, though.

See I'd love to be like my Dad.
He's rich, and does less work than I do.... and I really dont do much at all. And he gets to boss around loads of immigrant workers.... how cool would THAT be!!

I think we honor our parents best by learning from their mistakes.
