I am an actress, your skin the stretch of
Stage my talent requires,
And every turn I make is brilliant
And every spoken word is beautiful
And every last played trick performed
Upon the dark wood will overwhelm
And swell
And end with a dying fall
And with an ovation.
Perspiration in the night
Measured breathing, found triumph,
Marble arches and fingers digging into hips
Past bone and breath and to the
Core of the human myth, where there
Be gods and martyrs and saints
For the finding, and devils for
The binding.
Move me as water in a blown glass.
Sing me awake and not to sleep,
Cradle me and rock not to accomplish
A certain slope of drooping eye,
But to bring us once again to life
Through death, ambrosia on your breath
And blood wine on your lips,
Make me a man, make you a woman
To forgive the trappings of our gender
And in the act become something singular
Something concrete and fragile
I seek a fullness with the soul
And a breaking of the body.
A mixing of egg white and rose water within
Within a flood of exiled elements, cast out
With conviction, and with linked fingers, and
With wounds on your back in the wicked dark
A drop become a douse, douse a dose, dose
A downpour, emptier bodies than the ones before
Within a dying rose
Within a shattered egg, emptying the unformed body before
The second coming
Before the parting clouds, the thunder.
Damp and burning as if with a fever
The stained sheets collect what's left of you and I
And the night watches silently, the walls watch silently
As silently I tell secrets to myself
And gently hum a tune.
And gently hum a tune
While nimble hands trace themselves across
The latitudes of your fingerprints
And draw up the trappings of my deceit
To dress away the villainy and
Costume my satisfaction in the clothes of another life
So that, when I am revealed by wood and
Drip and the crush of leaves beneath a falling boot
I only appear to be that which I am
A wife.

Method ate too much today, and sausage was his fare
The skinnéd treat, too much to eat, found in Greek underwear,
He gobbled 'til he found it on his breath and on his skin
Engorged and satiated he knew not where to begin
"Do I now recline and rest and sleep my eating off?
Or do I find another lad to turn his head and cough
While I, with napkin 'low my chin, do snack upon his tube?"
He thought but for a moment, then he went to find his lube
And cranked out some tzatziki sauce to use next time he ate
(This helped him justify his constant need to masturbate)
And when his large head hit the pillow, Method whispered thus:
"Thank you, Lord, for little boys! Love, Popadopolous."
And,
"Milk was a bad choice."

Interesting responses. I actually liked this poem in particular. I think while your character may be unhappy, you conveyed the overall emotion really warmly, which is what I also think of the painting.
