Black and white photography can be a little overdone or clichéd, but it is better than colour when working with extreme light contrasts. I had a short obsession with subjects that had heavy shadow and blinding light. On the human face, it seemed to break it down into geometric shapes and make it almost cartoonish.
The subject I chose often was Morrissey. For a time, the man was the king of emos (even though the term wasn't around at the time). As miserable and whiny as his music was, it helped a bad mood. If I was ever seriously depressed as a teenager, I'd throw on Viva Hate and it would make me feel better. Why? Because: my life didn't suck that bad to make me want to write miserable lyrics like these. It still works to this day.
I'm getting off topic here. The inside cover art in that CD had some very interesting black and white shots of Morrissey's face. It was brightly lit at extreme angles, casting exaggerated shadows. I was fascinated by them. I sketched out each one and detailed a few, throwing in my own interpretation. Two of them were my favourites: one made him look wild and tribal. The other (the one below) was moody, but the way I drew it, he had a hint of a smile on his face. Eleven years later, I still think this is one of my best.
Subject: Morrissey
Year: c. 1995
Medium: pencil on standard sketchbook paper

Real nice drawing. I thought that was Mitt Romney at first. Don't know who Mitt is? You all will in a year or so...

Screw you, I'm gonna deliberately not find out now.
Ever.

Nicely done study of a troubled man. I always wondered why Morrissey oft wore band-aids on his nipples. That always threw me.

Like I said on email, all I know of Silence of the Lambs is what I saw on "The Critic" parody "Honey Ate the Kids". Hopkin's profile in that clip looks DISTURBINGLY like a half-melted Morrisey.
I've never actually seen SOTL as it has no pirates.

I forgot to mention that Morrissey had an indirect hand in one of my favourite books: "Girlfriend in a Coma" by Douglas Coupland. I know, I know...it's serious.
Icky, you're scaring me.

+2 APW.
-2 Morrissey.
What a whiney little faggot. His music is trash and his hairstyle is painful.

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said I'd like to smash every tooth
In your head
Oh...sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed
