The most awesome tournament ever is back, finally. And this time I won't mess it up, I swear. Prepare for D-Prime Madness III, the ultimate competition to crown the next lord of awesome.
"D-Prime Madness : All awesome, no bullshit, Ubermadness sucks."
Joining:
In order to join, sign-in to the Ubersite account that you are joining with and paste the following statement: "I have read (or at least flipped through) the above post and wish to join D-Prime Madness III because it is pwn" into a comment on this post. If you dislike gamer lingo, you can replace 'pwn' with some other positive adjective; "awesome," "the best," "terrific," etc. are some suggestions. If you say that you want to join on an official post but don't use this phrase, I will let you in if I notice it, if I don't dislike you, and if it's convenient for the format of the tournament.
Anyone with an Ubersite account can join D-Prime Madness, and everyone is accepted, including alters. Is this fair? Yes, because people with alters have the disability of being n00bs, and in the end you still have to be better than everyone to win in the finals. Good luck cheaters.
Okay, I lied; there is one rule for joining:
1. You must not be Razor (you may be Razor's alter.)
His incompetence INSPIRED this tournament. My hands are tied.
Read the bottom section of this post to read about the deadline (if it's still August, the deadline certainly hasn't passed.)
Format:
As par (per?) ancient D-Prime Madness tradition, it will be a simple 1 v. 1 elimination bracket. The number of rounds will depend on how many members there are. If the number of participants is not a power of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, etc.) there will be a number of participants who will have to take part in a preliminary 'n00b round,' which, if it exists, will also be an 'ADD round' in which the post will have to be in text and have fewer than 500 characters. The participants with the lowest ranks according to my seeding system (see below) will be the ones whom have to take part in this round, if necessary.
Participants will be matched up in each round so that the individual with the highest number of seed points will play the one with the lowest number, second highest-second lowest, etc. However, if you defeat someone with more seed points than you, you get that person's record for the purposes of the rest of the tournament (which means that we will know how many points the winner of each match-up will come out with, which means that it's a static bracket with a 'the winner of this match-up plays the winner of this match-up...' idea.)
Note that 'seed points' are merely a means of ranking for the preliminary round and for creating match-ups, and are not actually a standard of value for the competition.
At the start of each round, each match-up will be given a title in a DPM post by me. Both participants will, at some point in the following two weeks (see scheduling section for more information,) create an Ubersite post with that title. At the end of the two-week period, the post with the higher overall rating wins and moves on to the next round. You may do anything in order to make your rating high, so long as it follows the following two rules.
1. If it can be expected to offend someone, it must be labeled 'NSFW.'
2. You must not plagiarize (if you want to post someone else's work but admit in the post that it is someone else's, go ahead.)
The losers are knocked out after each round, and this continues until there is a single champion. No credit or brownie points or anything of that kind may be awarded to anyone other than the champion. Everyone else sucks, (except me.)
If, at the end of a round, there is a tie, the following tie-breakers will be used.
1. Whomever Darko gave a better rating (or decided was better.)
2. Whomever Xcuses gave a better rating (or decided was better.)
3. Whomever I gave a better rating.
4. (If the rating that they share is positive,) whichever has more unique reviews.
5. (If the rating that they share is negative,) whichever has fewer unique reviews.
6. I will decide which one is better and give it a +2, causing it to win.
If there is a double-forfeit (neither of them made a post with the given title,) the highest-rated loser from that round will take place of the winner.
Seeding:
All members will be seeded based on the number of 'seed points' their account has on the day I decide to seed everyone. It will be based on the following format.
Post = 100 points
Hit = 1 points
Review written: 100 points
Review on your post: 10 points
Avg. Rating = Rating * 10 000. (A +2 will get 20 000 points. A -1 will take away 10 000, etc.)
Being Darko (last DPM winner): 50 000 points
Being Xcuses (winner before that): 20 000 points
Scheduling:
The deadline for joining will be whenever I decide to start the first round, some time in-between September 1 and 14 (so check back,) although I expect it will be this weekend. There will then be two weeks for participants in the first round to submit their posts. At some point in the third week, I will start the next round, which will also provide two weeks, and this pattern continues until the final round.
In case I die (and do not start the following round within three weeks of the start of the last one,) I officially give Darko the right to take over the tournament.
Titles, finally:
The titles will be submitted by fans of DPM on this page. Anyone other than Razor may submit titles and they may submit any number of them. At the start of the tournament, I will select the titles that I like the best and use them, applying the best ones.
Note: I will probably post follow-up information on this post somewhere. Any questions should be addressed to me on this post.

I want to do it as a bit of a protest to the horribly long posts that plague UM. The way I've always felt with literature is that if you can't say it quickly, you aren't saying anything.

I agree. I think it would be a little more challenging anyways. You have to say what you want to say in a specified amount of words. It would cut down on a lot of the people who think they need to write a novel to tell a short story.
I dunno. I always found it to be a bit challenging. Forcing myself to create characters, situations, and a conclusion all within a certain limit of words. It's actually kind of hard. I would welcome the challenge.
