He stared at me with these cold eyes. I thought "Who was
this old guy?" Then I dragged him in the building as
police drove by. There was no time to think. I blinked
and pulled a gun...

The adrenaline that lapped through my veins caused minutes
to feel like seconds and seconds like hours. As if that's
not enough, I couldn't really explain why I did it. I don't
really know if I like the rush that it gave me. At this
point those thoughts were irrelevant. I had to leave the
scene and I had to do it fast.
After wiping my prints off the gun, I dumped it in the
alley. Actually, it was the same alley, same corner, and
same pile of trash that I found it in. I figured it was
left there for a good reason in the first place. Through
all the commotion I managed to chuckle. It's funny how
inconsistent morals can be. Wouldn't you say?
I didn't know how big my payoff was, yet. Hopefully big
enough to put that ring that I promised my girl on lay-
away. In the end I tool off with a locket on a chain and
a wallet. The locket I snatched from his neck appeared to
be gold. It must be worth something. His wallet, on the
other hand, felt a little empty. I didn't have time to
look through it so i stuffed it in my back pocket and
started to pace down the alley.
After a few Minutes of walking I was In the clear like
pool water in July. I finally found a moment of serenity
and I took a squat on the asphalt. Sirens were going off
but for all I know, it could've been over a cat stuck in
a tree. Either way, I didn't give a fuck. All that mattered
was that i was free. Or so i thought.
I opened the wallet and found three dollars and some change.
"My lunch is covered for the day," I thought to myself as I
searched throught the wallet. Besides the loot, the wallet
contained nothing more than random receipts and a generic
library card. After looking through the wallet I diverted
my attention to what I thought would be my real score.
I slowly opened the locket and got the strangest feeling
from the hairs on my neck down to the back of my spine. It
was a feeling i had felt before. Without hesitation I
inspected the locket and noticed something peculiar. Inside
the locket there was a picture. Not just any picture, but a
picture of me. At this very moment a million questions came
to mind. Did this man know me? For all i knew, he could've
been my father. If there was ever a moment of guilt during
my disintegration, this was it.
I tried to get up but my knees gave on me, sending me right
back down to the dirty pavement. As I fell down I looked at
my hands and saw them aging before my eyes. In a matter of
seconds my hair grew and turned a dark gray. I wish I could
explain what I felt but i can't. It was as if I was in a
dream. Actually, it was more like a nightmare that held me
and wouldn't let me go.
I finally managed to stand on my feet and started to walk.
I wasn't headed anywhere in particular, I was just walking.
For every step I took, I lost a finger on my hold of reality.
I made it around the corner when a young man shoved my face
the side of a building. As he harassed me all I could do was
stare at the pavement hoping that something inside of me would
click and either wake me up or knock me out. The man that
stood behind me was very animus and fidgety. He appeared new
at this but something told me that he had done this before.
He demanded money but I just stared at the ground while trying
to ignore the onscenities spilling out of his mouth. I didn't
have much to give and I wasn't ready to give it up, especially
that locket. Before I could do that, I needed to find logic
in what i was experiencing. The man pulled me back and threw
me in a puddle of water. I hit the ground like a rock and looked
the man in the face. That's about the time when it all hit me.
He stared at me with these cold eyes. Who was this young guy?
He shoved me in the building as police drove by. There was no
time to think. He blinked and pulled a gun...
