I'm later than usual with this, but it's my week off so I'm moving slower than usual.
This is my most recent attempt at a portrait after laying down the pencils for over a year. After I graduated from college and couldn't find a design/advertising job, I fell into one as a corporate drone in the financial district. I abandoned art as I figured there was no use as it wasn't getting me anywhere.
As most right-brained people do, I became bored and restless with my job. I needed a creative outlet before I went postal. I decided to start drawing again and began searching for a subject to practice with. I was flipping through "Polaroids from the Dead", a collection of short stories by Douglas Coupland and happened upon this photograph. The bedroom eyes, parted lips and her pose were seductive, but a little haunting at the same time. Could have had to do with the fact that Charles Manson was the photo on the facing page. I can't be sure who she is as there were no photo notes, but she looks like Brigitte Bardot (sp).
I decided she would be my practice subject. The result was something different than what appeared in the photo. Her head had turned slightly and she was no longer gazing longingly into the camera, her eyes look past the photographer and have deadened a bit. Her mouth is now closed and downturned. Her pose is no longer seductive, but rather seems like she's about to get up off her seat.
I've heard it said that art reflects the artist, that there's a little self-portrait in every piece an artist does. We are all a little egotistical and like to leave our mark on everything we do. Looking at the drawing now and delving a little deeper into it and how it turned out, it makes sense. Rather than appearing confident and alluring, she rather looks bored and waiting for something to happen.
Subject: Black and white photo of woman, possibly Brigitte Bardot
Year: 2006
Medium: Pencil on standard sketchbook paper

I just did a little research and found out who she is. It's Sharon Tate, which explains why she was across from a photo of Manson. Creepy.
Manson and BB? I immediately thought of Tate as that same picture is in Helter Skelter about the Manson case.
Keep it up!!

The woman in your drawing looks older, but could it be Catherine Deneuve in that great old Polanski flick 'Repulsion?'
(Crazy women in nightgowns are hot.)

I would like a larger shot if you have it.

That's very flattering, thank you! But I thought I already sent this to you. No matter, I'll send it again.

Make sure you pay close attention to the symmetry of the face - your pencil work is really nice, but your proportions are a little wonky.
Over all - nice job.
