That blobfish is disgusting. I can't imagine doing that for a post because it's one of those things where you look at it and you want to vomit. This is also a reason I probably couldn't do one of these on spiders.

Today Peter Brock, a race car driver, another Australian icon, died.... 'driving'. If Steve Irwin died on account of a wild stingray, and Peter Brock died on account of his arse travelling at light speed through his forehead, I am destined to fall foul of an operating system flaw.

Danger_Ranger is a Robot and hence immune to mere sting ray venom.

I catch stingrays all the time (fishing). The dirty fuckers make you think you've finally caught something that will impress a girl, and then you land them and spend the next half an hour gingerly trying to remove the hook, embarrassed by the onlookers, cooing sweet nothings to it for their benefit, and telling your kids that the gasping noise it's making means it's really fucking happy.

At Sunshine Beach you can see them when you surf, and spend the whole time with your legs tucked under you like in a sitting-on-board fetal position on the off chance of impressing girls too, and not dying.

Me and Tiff went swimming with stingrays at a place like that in the Bahamas. It was pretty cool.

I like the southpark episode "Chicken Lover" where Cartman watches some of Steve Irwin's shows and then imitates him..."I'm gonna stick my finger right in his butthole, that'll really piss him off!"

But yeah, nice post of teh stingrays....I fed on once at Sea World in Florida, and those things will suck (yes, like a vacuum) the morsels of food right off your hand. Pretty neat.

Hadley: So do you suppose he grabbed hold of the barb himself and stabbed himself in the chest? Well that would be suicide and I'd say you should be investigating that rather than taking it out on me.

Sicosemen: Last week I tried to deviate from the animal/bug path and it didn't work out so well in the end. So I will probably not do your suggested post on "white trash," but I thank you for your suggestion anyway. :)

Well, Eric D. Rice of West Virginia, I do agree that that one creature is scary. What's it called? That blobfish thing is just disturbing.

And TMB, don't worry. I believe that I may live for at least 2 more weeks, so both of you will have your needs met.

I love these - Could you do the next one on various fish that live like millions of miles underwater? There's one that has a glowing little light dangling off of the top of a little pole thingie on his head to attract his victims. I don't remember his name.

In fact, do a whole piece on bioluminescence, it's fucking fascinating

Obviously the titel should be something like The Mighty Badger SPT (although it's not really spt because nothing about The Mighty Badger is shit.)

I refer of course to THE Mighty Badger, not myself (although I am pretty mighty and what not).

'a wealth of information that is unknown' ???

how can there be a wealth of UNKNOWN information.

The very nature of unknown information is that you don't know how much there is.

The could be a little bit or a lot.

/end pedantry.

===============

<logic>

If we took a snapshot of everything 'known' by humanity on this date, September 7th, 2006, and then waited until a year from now, September 7th, 2007 to take another snapshot, we would have to acknowledge that we, as humanity and in comparison of the two 'snapshots', acquired what COULD VERY EASILY BE CONSIDERED a wealth of information.

As of this date, September 7th, 2006, that wealth of information is unknown.

Thank you, that is all, consider yourself disproven.

Wasn't Irwin only like the 14 or 18th stingray-related death in recorded history? There've been more deaths attributed to dogs, horses, even guinea pigs (who can transmit certain disease).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know, man. I only know about Australia. But if this is true, that makes his death even better*.

*by better I mean "more ironic" and "slightly more funny."
I mean no disrespect. I can appreciate human life and all, but it's just...Gah!
