I've found that many Christians I've known claim to be generous and compassionate but aren't. They tend to be condescending towards or afraid of people who are different from them, closed-minded, stubborn, and self-righteous.

I spent my youth going to church several times a week and still go to one when I'm home out of habit. Currently I go to a tiny private Methodist school which I chose for its size and location in the mountains.
One day last year my school was having a mandatory church service in our chapel. I went, found out it was supposed to be the next week instead, and walked out.
A Christian fraternity here has the task of cheering loudly as people enter the chapel. As I walked away planning to study for a test instead, the guys outside were confused about what to do. Apparently this had never happened before.
Eventually one made the suggestion to tell me I was going to hell. Of course, everyone laughed. But it made me wonder, how do people with such an attitude towards others expect to convert them? What is their logic here?
Possibly it's that they're so comfortable in their groups of similar people with similar beliefs that they really don't care about others as much as they say they do.
Now I realize that there are exceptions, and I've met many a loving, openhearted Christian too. It just bothers me that others claim to be what they aren't.

A lot of Christians and Catholics are seriously trying to live their lives according to Jesus Christ's teachings. They are peaceful and loving, and will even violate the "law" and put themselves at risk to help their fellow humans. I was fortunate enough to know some of the people during the 80's who were(illegally)involved in providing sanctuary to Central American refugees.
Recently, some churches in Santa Monica were threatened with legal action if they continued to feed homeless people. Unfortunately, these religious people don't get any press; who wants to hear about boring shit like that in the news when you can read about Fred Phelps?
Personally, I'm agnostic, so I don't really give a shit, but I think it's best if everyone tries not to generalize too much.

I applaud you for seeing wrong and knowing it when you see it. That's half the battle. The other half is realizing that the very thing inside you that tells you their actions are wrong is the same Holy Ghost that is spoken about by Jesus Christ.
Think about it.
It's taken me years to arrive at this personal revelation. I hope it helps. But I know it won't.

Because these exact points have been raised several times in the last almost 93000 posts, and some of them were more coherent and offered more insight. Therefore, Seen better.

Good point. I've seen both sides of the coin before too, some are fake, some a truly genuine and will give you their last dollar to help you.
As for the rice crispies, my mom used to mix them 50/50 with fruit loops and other sugary cereals to prevent us hyperactive kids from bouncing off the walls any more than necessary...
