Gone are the days of FDR, Harry S Truman, JFK, Winston Churchill, Charles DeGaulle, and many other great men whom have led their respective countries and societies from periods of great Wars and Conflicts into a sort of lasting peace (in retrospect). My question is, will we ever be able again to have such magnanimous figures and heads of state to look for in these times of strife? Will we ever be able to enjoy that solace again, or do these heroes only exist in literature and movies? Will the hearts of man always linger about drifting as Virgil, or is there some hope we can place in our future?

That has to be the most innane blubbering I have ever seen. Everyone has non supporters, and I specifically asked questions not pertaining to JUST these men, but in the reviewers eyes I expected you to transcend the words and imagine who you think is or was a great leader and why they are/were. You fucking ignorant simian, you are giving me responses to questions that werent asked but you infer and you offer me with some fat off of the back bullshit that does nothing to sustain your argument.
Go have a chocolate covered pretzel you moron.

These guys weren't great because of what they lead but by how they lead....They had non supporters too. Don't be so naive to think that just because they went down in books as great that they were perfect.

Criticize and no create? That seems to be the banner child for this forum. JGreening who is a good leader to you and why? I think thats a simple pretty straightforward question.

Great leadership is only a perception. Whoever can untilize the mass media to their advantage will appear to be a great leader.

Total trash.
Those leaders were not great leaders because they were great in leading causes.
They were great leaders because the causes they lead were great.
Another way of putting it, "No one is special. No one is different. No one may be remembered for greatness until their times and lives make it so. And when, by chance, fate looks upon those good souls, and they are set to lead mankind into the future with an awesome stride and a righteous cause, their earned and given greatness is not bourne as a mantle of pride, but as a cloak of humility."
It's not a quote you would have heard, I don't think. It was my 11th grade World History teacher, Mr. Davis.
I remember it because as he said it, I had my tape recorder on for notes, and when I got home, I wrote it down on the back of a piece of posterboard I was using to make a sign for a friend who was running for Junior class Vice-President. Now, that piece of posterboard is framed and hangs next to my front door and I read it every day before I leave.

Your first mistake is posing this as a Q&A session question.
Your second mistake is asking Ubersite, where not a single person has a fucking clue about anything.
+2 because you sound intelligent and will probably not post shit from here on out.

All those men you named in your post did great things but also had tremendous faults. Its just how we choose or are led to perceive their person as a whole.

Nope. Society's fucked. One day people will look back on George W as a leader and hero, and say "how did this chunk of limestone ever get into office?"
The answer, of course, is Amtrak. They rigged 9/11 so people would avoid air travel and take more trains. http://loosetrains911.blogspot.com/

The way I see it, it's like Billie Holiday. It's not that people aren't able to sing like that anymore, it's just that it isn't popular or what the masses expect from their celebrities.
