Eternity. You know the meaning, yet you can't comprehend the concept. Everything humanity knows has a beginning and an end. We exist within time. What is it to be outside of time? What is it like to have several novemdecillion (10 to the sixtieth power) years be not even be a factor in your lifespan? It is impossible to know, for the organic mind cannot grasp it.
I heard a pretty good example of eternity; imagine a giant, 500 ton copper ball. Imagine that this ball is touched by one thing, and one thing only. No weather, no people, no elements, it stands alone. The one thing that touches it is a pigeons wing. If once per week, this pigeon flew over and brushed it's wing on the ball, by the time the entire copper ball was ground to dust, eternity would barely have started.
Just think about it. Eternity is a long time. What do you think happens after you die?

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings with my mean comment.
I just thought this was a bunch of rambling philosophical nonsense with no real point. Reading it again further cements my initial conclusion.

Whoever this Randy fucker is has stolen a famous quote and dickinized it for himself. Hendrik Willem van Loon made it somewhat popular...I think it's some Viking saying. Go look it up.

every thousand years
this metal sphere
ten times the size of Jupiter
floats just a few yards past the earth
you climb on your roof
and take a swipe at it
with a single feather
hit it once every thousand years
`til you've worn it down
to the size of a pea
yeah I'd say that's a long time

In other news.....
Is Saeki an alter?

I'll admit I was lazy when I typed that first post. It takes a tremendous amount of effort for me to write like this, its really hassle.

Eternity is what most people think , what seperates them from .... (please fill in your favourite worshipsubject).
Einstein once said : time doesn't count itself , only the observer does .
So eternity doesn't exist , for time doesn't exist . we only made it up , and
now we try to find an explanation for the unexplainable . poor suckers , who needs an
explanation for everything . How would you define another infinte thing : space ?
the only way to explain that , for instance , is by quantifying it by means of time .
So eternity(time) can also only be defined by space , and reverse .
And we are neither . So stop trying ...

K, I'm done.
~~~~~
whats the matter with you? Jeez...
ANYWAY
As for the question.... well I think it's safe to say that from that question you will have only a few differing replies (possibly depending on whether the individual is religious or not). Or whether they are studying a science degree (like myself for example).
I also think that there are many that don't care what happens when they die, there are many who waste their time when alive... and that maybe we shouldn't have dragged ourselves out of the water in the first place.
Heres a good way to bring home the concept of eternity. Imagine that everyday
you could only read ubersite, not being able to skip any posts or reviews.
Just think of how much quicker you would intuitively grasp the concept of true
endlessness.
That copper ball happens to be the tumor off my prostate so leave it alone, and this is a question more for Tom Cruise than Ubersite.
I can't really give this a +2 because technically that pigeon would die way before it even got halfway through that copper ball.
I prefer to contemplate my own navel... as it is infinitely more enjoyable than contemplating eternity.
Contemplation should never get in the way of enjoying life. You strike me as someone who could probably use a little more of that action.
Just a hunch.
By the way, I think of eternity as an endless ocean with no shores, a dynamic process. The way most people speak about makes it sound like eternity is something static with a start and finish.
I have yet to meet an individual with no faith. Faith is a core component of humanity. Everyone must act on beliefs in what they cannot know. Without moving through the unknown, a person would be stagnant until death.
What sucks is when we get mired down in thinking that if we DON'T have faith in any particular thing/event/phenomenon (i.e. Jesus Christ, the big bang, evolution) that we'll be eternally punished or that something equally absurd will happen.
Everyone has faith. Faith is belief in what you cannot verify. Some have faith that the world was initiated by a giant explosion billions of years ago. Some have faith that man is the result of a primordial ooze adapting complexity over time. Some have faith in different prophets and saviors.
It is impossible to know some things. That is what faith is for. Where you put your faith determines what kind of person you are. The strength of your faith determines how you act.
Think about this one: if our universe is infinte, and yet confined in the space outside of what there was before the Big Bang, aka NOTHING, then our Universe resides in Nothing, meaning that we don't exist.
Dalai consider for a moment the possibility that the experience of time requires an active consciousness which (most would agree with me here) ceases to exist at death.
How can we know a spirit or afterlife even exists in time? Many worldviews would offer that life after death is extra-temporal, or 'beyond time'. I'd agree. Eternity in this case then, would be a misnomer.
I spent the last hour or so reading Exit Mundi off of B@W... and thinking the same exact stuff.
It will drive you insane if you think about it too long... kinda like you wanna go blow your brains out, just to 'see what happens'.
Maybe thats a little extreme...
Nothing. The reason I want to believe in Christianity or any religion is because the alternative is too horrible to think about.
