On the 17th, the Preliminary Round ended and it was up to me to begin Round One of D-Prime Madness III in the following few days. It has been 2 to 3 days, so here it is, as promised.
Everyone had the option to pick from multiple titles in the Preliminary 'ADD' round, as well as the option to make more than one post via using unique titles (there was six.) Not surprisingly, I noticed the following pattern. Those who used multiple titles did not do as well, even though the best rating was used. Speculations on the reasons for this are not, however, properly put in this post; I'll leave that for our legions of fans.
Seeing as, by one count, 23 Uberers decided to join D-Prime Madness III (roughly the same as II, surprisingly,) and this number does not divide well into a bracket, the following format was to be used going into R1: Everyone would make a preliminary round post using one of the title options, and the top 16 ratings would make it into the first round. Now, I assumed that a few people would bail out, but certainly not 7, and that all would go well; I also gave new participants the chance to join by making a preliminary post by the end of the round.
Well, that will "learn me" to announce the start of a Round over the weekend and not advertise it (such as by linking to it on the user's own posts.) I did NOT expect less than half (10) of the users to submit posts. We also lost some of our big names, such as Rad and Method (who may have been banned,) but Jared was noble enough to continue, as was D_Prime, the biggest name of all. But, creaming out the failures is what Preliminary Round is for anyway, so all is fine; let the games continue.
How Round One And The Rest Will Be Formatted (Remix):
Everyone who made a preliminary round post AND linked it up, as you were supposed to if you read the rules... all ten of you, made it to Round One, as you were all in the top sixteen. Your highest rating was used for seeding, as expected.
Everyone has been matched up 1 v 10, 2 v 9 etc. to create five match-ups for Round One, which is what would have happened (except eight would be created) if the proper number of alleged participants had posted. To compensate for the fact that 5 (not 4 or 8) people are going to make it to Round Two (third including preliminary,) I am going to make it the semi-finals. The Round One winners with the two highest-rated posts will duke it out in the first semi-final match 1 v.1, and the three other winners from Round One will have a three-way battle with one title in the other semi-final match. The winner of those two R2/Semi-Finals matches will then make it to the finals. So, not much has changed on account of this disappointment.
Some may believe that I am rewarding the lower three R1 winners by giving them easier competition in R2, while the two 'better' winners are being punished with stiffer competition. But if you think about it, I think you'll agree that (seeing as they all won with different titles and will be relatively close together in skill) it is preferable to have one opponent, than two opponents which are not estimated to be quite as good as that one opponent. Besides, even if this does cause the second-best participant not to make the finals... who cares? All that ultimately matters is that the greatest wins the championship, which is assured. I reviewed the other options, and my Dprimey wisdom showed this to be the best option.

JMG v. Maltese - "Incalculable"

Joey G v. Action-Reaction - "What's In It For You?"
Note: I picked all of the titles at the start of the preliminary round, and applied them randomly to all of the later rounds' match-ups, so I don't know my title more than an hour earlier before I make the post (when I'm in the process of writing it.). Retarded titles are/were designed purely for use in the preliminary round.
Each of you have two weeks, until the end of the day on October 4th, to create an Ubersite post with your given title. The higher-rated post from each match-up will make it to the next round. A double-forfeit will result in a 1v4, 2v3 semi-finals. A few days after October 4th I will create the post officially starting the next round.
The Shit Ratings Principle:
There were lots of complaints about shit ratings in the preliminary round, such as -2s that were obviously the result of a vendetta. To solve this problem for future rounds, I have hired user Bubba2341 to settle disputes.
If you are in a match-up, and bullshit ratings make a difference for whether you win or lose, e-mail Bubba (ardhow2004.at.yahoo.com) and demonstrate that it was in fact a shit rating (it included a personal comment in response to a review you made, this person -2s every post you do without giving a reasons, etc.) Benefit of the doubt will go to the validity of the rating, but Bubba hates shit ratings, so you have an ally. If you're too lazy to go through this process, it is your loss. Bubba will then verify his decision to me via e-mailing me at dprime.at.hotmail.com or commenting on a DPM post.
If you e-mail Bubba and he doesn't respond in a couple of days or by the start of the next round, e-mail/comment me and I will settle it (he is really at no obligation.) Now, match-ups that include me do not have this convenience, so if Bubba fails then my opponent and I both lack coverage; but seeing as we both do and we're opponents, it evens out.
For the final match, I am not going to have the users submit independently. I will instead have each of them send me (or I will send me) the posts, and I will submit them simultaneously, to put them on a more even, objective playing field; no one will know, unless they figure it out, which post is which. People can then rate the posts, not in the form of giving a rating, but by saying what their rating is for one or both of them. This, hopefully, will clear out the assholes.

Good luck everyone, particularity to those who read through this entire post. Here is the bracket. Last competition, each bracket looked worse and worse because I would upload the last bracket, which was a jpg, to MSPaint and then save it as a jpg again following changes, making the shitty-jpg-ocity add up. This time, I am keeping hard bmps on my hard drive at each step so that when I upload, there will only be one degree of shitty-jpg-ocity.

I never claimed to invent the idea of running a writing competition on Ubersite.
I know that I started this when you talked about "Shlongy Madness," but seeing as you never took that seriously (or at least others didnt,) I did this. It wasn't really that much of an adaptation... replacing Uber with one's userman.

Haha. In all honestly, I probably will use a piece I've already been working on. However, I did not know that this was my title until just now, and I figured out a way to make it apply.
I choose a bunch of titles that I thought were effective at the start of the tournament, and applied them randomly to the later match-ups. For the longest time, that has been the official title for "First Round Match-Up Including second-highest rated post from preliminary round..." but I never really paid any attention.
