Since plagiarizing is all the rage right now, and since many of you already know the drill, I see no need to write out a lengthy explanation when copying, pasting, and tweaking works just fine:
The following pairs were picked at random.
Pairs are listed in order picked from O's Boston Red Sox Hat of Playoff Disappointment.
AUTHORS MUST GIVE A TITTLE TO THEIR COMPETITIOR BY THE END OF THE DAY.

I figured it would be better to give the first round a little more time than the others, considering that UMIV is going on.
After this, the rounds will progress by week:

My vote doesn't count 'cause I'm not writing but when have I ever withheld my opinion?
I think you should all move on.
And sad fact is, times have changed with ratings on these comps, and you just need a way to deal with the supposedly all growns up adults who feel the need to drive by and piss on someone's rating because they can. Also I saw some honest mistakes where people meant to rate and simply erred.
If you need a spam judge and/or mathmagician to verify/reval ratings, I know two people who are happy to help. Namely, me as judge and Jake as math type person.

Voting ends tonight and the Round 2 pairings and such will come out tomorrow.
There are 18 entries, and the fold would have been naturally cut down to 16 (from 32) had everyone participated and we had a full roster.
So...we have two options:
1. Everyone that wrote a story for Round 1 moves on to Round 2, and we move on knowing that everyone involved can be trusted to participate.
2. The victors of the 6 matchups that featured two writers move on, the victors of the 6 matches where one writer forfeited move on, and the four highest rated losers take the other 4 spots.
#2, of course, winds up leaving two users' cheese out in the wind.
What do you think? 1 seems to make the most sense, but 2 preserves the notion of winning and losing. Guess it comes down to what's more important to everyone, really.

I've been wondering how I could catch up to the six days of work that piled up in the two days I took off, and now I know.
I need to be at work at 5:00Am local time so I need to go to sleep. This is a "one fuckup you're done" kind of comp, and, as I refuse to win because my competitor cannot show, I have but one choice.
I forfeit as well. That leaves 30 people in the comp, and I wish all of you the best of lick.

Aren't we all? Since the last round of layoffs, I have been working 14 hour days, with the exception of the 2 days of vacation they so graciously let me take because our dog was sick.
Scourge's comment "you know why" leads me to believe SOMEONE out there knows something I can only imagine, and I don't think it has to do with "real life stepping in."
I know he was pissed at my comment on his UMIV post, but my vote didn't turn the tide for him.

1. I should have posted my UMIV tale yesterday but I got shithammered at work. And now I've been botten by the revision bug.
- - Ah yes, as today is the most glorious day in modern history... my birthday... I, too, shall be getting quite "shithammered" this evening at my favorite bar among friends. This was one of the reasons I wrote my piece early. I knew I would be engaged this evening and be in absolutely no position to create anything substantial tomorrow.
2. What the FUCK do you do for a living? - - I assume you speak of this thing that some people refer to as a "job." You see, being that I have sever Bi-Polar I Disorder, I'm on three different kinds of medications. 200mg Topomax, 150mg Effexor and 20mg Abilify. Without medication I am... unpleasant. With meds, my sleep schedule is so screwed I can't work. My doctors put me on SSDI for disability. I get a whopping $780 a month, with $129 taken out for Medicare Blue. My brother rents a room from me, so there is another $300 a month. I supplement this with occational freelance gigs in art, and my first book will be out early in 2007, so that will generate some royalty payments. As long as I don't bring in more than $750 per month, SSDI won't penalize me. As I am in the process of negotiating a second book deal, I'm hoping that the joint income will allow me to get off SSDI permently...

I remember back in high school, if we were taking a test and someone finished WAY earlier than everyone else, there were 2 possible sides to it.
1) They actually were prepared, knew their shit, and they'd claim the highest grade on the exam.
2) They completely blew it, and the only thing they'll get right on the paper is their name and date.
