Entry 1
Martin Spencer. Married to his high school sweetheart. Father of four. Real estate tycoon. Millionaire. Thief.Sure it seems cliché for the current time, but embezzlement was new to us then. I had been friends with Martin for several years. I met him in 1962 when I was in my early twenties. My wife and I had frequent dinner dates with the Spencer's. I worked with him at L & I Properties.
They had the white picket fence, which was bigger than any I had ever seen. The Spencer's were the Jones' for sure: everyone that knew them spent great amounts of time trying to keep up with them. They had beautiful things to show for Martin's successes in real estate. The Mrs., Sondra was her name, was the most fastidious person I ever met. There was no pleasing her. I don't believe she ever worked a day in her life.
Anyway, I'm not sure how this came about. We never really talked about it after it happened. All I know is that Martin Spencer was feeling the pressure to keep up with his own life, his own bills, his family's newfound luxurious spending habits. Maybe that's why he started taking the money. Maybe it was simply because it was accessible to him; or because he thought he could get away with it.
He was arrested in 1967 on 24 counts of embezzlement. They say he stole over $1.3 million dollars over a period of three and a half years. I can't speak for everyone else, but I know I was stunned. They were tough on him; made a lesson out of his misdoings. He was sentenced to 4 years in jail and a publicly tarnished criminal record.
To be honest, Martin and I didn't talk much after that. His wife divorced him and took the kids. Less than a year later, she moved away and married a fancy doctor of some sort. We eventually began corresponding while he was in prison. During the time of his family dysfunction, Martin and I didn't write much. I never really knew what to say, but I know that Martin was indescribably upset, to say the least. What he did was selfish, but he loved those children more than anything. He lost everything.
---
After his debt to society was paid, Martin tried to start over. Although he was an intelligent man, finding work was anything but easy. Interview after interview he was turned down. Nearly one year after searching for the perfect job, Martin had to finally give into the inevitable: accepting a lesser job to pay the bills. He worked at a local department store for short wages.
Getting a house was out of the question. Martin needed a loan. With his outstanding past, this was an impossible feat. He resigned himself to renting a small apartment in the suburbs.
Society had literally left him on the wayside. His options limited and his frustration growing, Martin Spencer felt the unending pressure left him only one choice. Left alone and miserable, without his children or his family, shunned from the world he once embraced, Martin Spencer took his own life on November 17, 1974.
He was my dearest friend. The best father I ever knew. A loving husband. A thief. Excluded.
Perhaps he deserved to be excluded, this menace to society. Perhaps he even deserved society's mistrust. But wasn't there anything he could do to earn it back? I guess we'll never know.

Entry 2
September 25, 2006Burbank, California (AP) - In a swift and unexpected industry move, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has announced it is enacting a permanent ban on all clichéd and overused movie one liners from being used in normal conversation. The list of movies, which is extensive, includes bar room staples such as "Caddyshack," "Napoleon Dynamite," "Old School" and "Happy Gilmore."
"We feel that the problem multi-layered. Most importantly, these fine cinematic achievements are losing their icon status. The genius of their screenplays is being diluted," said MPAA spokesman Peter Kiplinger during a Taco Bell promotion for "Ocean's 13."
Not everyone agrees that the ban is a good idea, however. Many smaller advocacy groups have taken up the fight against the MPAA, claiming that pop-culture quips are a lifeblood of the American male and millions of unintelligent men will have no way to communicate while drinking or during football half-times.
Chad "Moose" Oberlander, chairperson for Fraternities Against Governing Speech (FAGS) at the University of Arizona, feels that his ability to hit on women will be greatly impacted:
"Dude, I just... dude. I mean, dude, this is so wrong and shit. They're like, 'dude and stuff,' and I'm like 'this sucks!'" He further elaborated with "Like, dude, how am I going to talk with chicks and shit. Like, I can't do my totally sweet version of 'the price is wrong, bitch!' Or, shit dude, or 'if things go right I might be showing her my O-face. You know: Oh. Oh.'"
Kiplinger points out that such uses of movie quotes is not only incorrectly taking them out of context, but causing the stupefaction of society as a whole:
"People should be attempting to converse *more* originally, not relying on tired gimmicks and overused pop-culture ideas to get ahead," he said from a joint press conference with Mike Myers for "Shrek 3."
"People often gravitate to cultural axioms when they are uncomfortable or at a loss for other means of communication," says Dr. Emil Vynchek of the Vynchek Associates Guild for Informal and Normalized Articulation (VAGINA). "One of those assumed truths is that these movies are funny or insightful or even romantic, and that by using them the speaker becomes these qualities too."
Some of the more popular phrases that will be included on this permanent ban include:
- "Shampoo is better, it goes on the hair first!" from Billy Madison
- "If I'm not back in five minutes... just wait longer!" from Ace Ventura
- "You might be a cunning linguist, but I am a master debater." from Austin Powers
- "Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!" from Dumb and Dumber
- "You're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe?" from Beverly Hills Cop
Should this ban prove successful, movie insiders are pushing forward with the idea of other bans as well.
"The MPAA has always taken a hard line against overly romantic posturing. Oh, And John Stamos. Thoughtful looks towards the horizon with background music will certainly be put on the permanent ban list. That, and anything that at all resembles Uncle Jesse," said insider Bill Swerski, while softly humming "In Your Eyes."
Informal protests have already started, including a spontaneous and horridly off-key rendition of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" at John Wayne International Airport in Orange County by travelers in terminal 2 and an impromptu nearly-naked clay pot throwing event in Boston.

I really contemplated DQing myself here. Or forfeiting. But my opponent made it sound like he had such a kick ass post, I thought "I'm going to try and make Orgasmo's prediction come true." I did, in fact, try to add a little Electro at the end. I couldn't quite put his ending because then I thought people would vote for it.
I really REALLY wanted to post a picture of goatse and lemonparty...and other bannable things. But then I didn't feel like giving Bart more work to do.
So here you have it. Congrats to my opponent.

Well, this is the first matchup where both entries are equally bad.
I'm not saying they are utter shit, but come on. Nearly a week and this is the best we get?
The first story was well-written, but left me completely flaccid.
The second was retarded, but seeing as how it focuses on something that irritates the shit out of me, namely people too fucking stupid to come up with funny or witty lines of their own who endlessly repeat the same movie and TV garbage over and over until you finally snap and strike on a Friday afternoon while leaving work late, just you and Mr. Catchphrase in the freight elevator, heading down to the ass end of the building and a shortcut to BART, and since you know that there is no security camera in the elevator you suddenly hook an elbow into his gut and step aside as he bends at the waist and a partially digested Big Mac and fries come heaving up and spatter the floor, and then you grab him by the shirt collar and belt and repeatedly bash his fucking head against the sheet metal walls like a meat and bone battering ram, revelling in the hollow gonging filling the freight elevator like Quasimodo getting off on his bells in Notre Dame, and...
Uh, anyway, I went with #2.

the best part of both of these entries is that the contestants realized they do not need to write a 40,000 word statement on how heartbreaking the main characters fathers molestation of them was and how it now impacts them, 20 years and so many tubes of black lip gloss and dead johns later.
brevity is certainly underrated when it comes to UM.
I have spoken.
=======================
And I have agreed.

number one had no soul or depth to it
number two was not funny. i think it was meant to be humor, but it just was not funny.

2 was definately one of the best entries I've seen so far. Probably the best use of the title I've seen. Great job

I picked 1 because I like thieves, but entry 1 should've been tubgirl and entry 2 should've been goatse.
