"Kaote" is the term for an individual who believes in Chaos, but even this definition is incorrect under the most strictest ideals. A Kaote does not have faith in Chaos, some dogma attached to a word, rather they are able to see the beauty and truth that lies behind the concept itself. The only constant in this reality is change - embrace it.
The Kaote accepts his place in the infinite. They know that they are a feeble thing before the expanse of all that eternity encompasses and they are fine with that. Know that you are not inherently special or privilege or loved, that you must earn these distinctions. In recent times, the statement by Brad Pitt's character Tyler Durden from the film "Fight Club" is often quoted to further explain this: "You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake."
Try something. If it works, try it again to verify how it feels. If it doesn't feel correct, abandon it and try something else. Explore your own thoughts. Don't accept as truth anything you haven't experimented with yourself. Rather than trying to recover and maintain a tradition that links back to the past and a former glory, a Kaote uses what they think is suitable as a belief. What matters is YOU, not the "authenticity" of the faith.
I believe in a higher power, but it is god with a lower case "g." It has no identity or form, no personality or beliefs... at least none that we finite little mortal creatures could ever hope to conceive of. To assume otherwise is both ignorant and arrogant. God is an equation that equals everything, the algorithm of reality. We each make up the most miniscule part of that formula. And as we in this modern day know that energy does not "die," it merely changes, the same can be said for us. Letters and numbers shift in our own equation and we are redistributed somewhere else among the vast eternity of the divine.
This higher power does not care, and we must remember that. We are alone and morality is a man made thing, molded to fit the tastes of the culture and the time period. It is all a matter, in the end, of personal opinion. Granted, obvious logic plays into factoring certain choices one makes in life, but ultimately, you and I must decide who we wish to be. What roles we desire to play in this great cosmic joke, positive or negative. And yet, there is no "Bad" end to a battery that powers a tool...
Now you may ask the question: "What is the point, the purpose to everything then? What is the meaning of life?" I find Douglas Adams' answer of 42 to be perfectly acceptable. Why must there be a valid, awe-inspiring reason? Is it not enough that we are just here? There is NO such thing as the sanctity of life, life simply is. Experience it while you can! All of it, from the most blissful qualities to the most wretched. These are the things that make us alive, that make us human.
And that's good enough for me.

My beliefs harmonize with yours. I've posted this somewhere on Uber before, maybe on one of your previous posts, but I don't necessarily find religion in and of itself to be a bad thing. That is to say, various cultures throughout recorded humanity have used various (by "various" I mean "a ton of") religions to seek a higher Truth. The fact that certain humans of power corrupted the structure of their respective religions for more power is another argument. The point is that the vast majority of humans have always sought a higher Meaning or "God."
Like you, I believe it is more of a "god" or "force" or "chi" or "essence" than a personified "Being" that is out there (and out here). I don't mean to spew metaphysical mumbo-jumbo, so I'll wrap this up concisely by saying that for those people who truly believe in their religion, they use it as a vehicle to seek the same "thing," regardless of the religion.
Those who have become detached (or maybe never were attached) to a particular religion still seek that same thing, that Knowledge of our place in everything. I guess I wasn't done with teh metaphysical crap.
In any case, I'm glad to have come across this post, as my present and future tattoos involve that search for the truth. That chaos star symbol really captures the essence of my beliefs. +2 for inspiring my next tattoo.
Have I rambled enough yet?

"God is an equation that equals everything"
For some reason, this idea has always set well with me. I envision reality to be the solution to some vastly complex, nearly infinite order PDE. There's no chance or luck, simply small integrations in time.
Damn I'm a nerd.

Lo, there do I see The 13th Warrior.
-------------------
Lo there I read eaters of the dead.
Lo there do I see the bad movie they made of it.

My thoughts exactly.

"What matters is YOU, not the "authenticity" of the faith."
-i am liam and I agree with this message.
I don't beleive in it but norse religion always had a pull for me.
Lo, there do I see my father.
Lo, there do I see my mother.
And my sister and my brother
Lo, there do I see the line of my people
Back to the beginning.
Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them
In the halls of Valhalla
Where the brave may live forever.
