I am seriously considering going back to school.
I did high school.
I did one year of university.
After re-evaluating my life, I dropped out; two years went by and I had graduated from college, with a diploma in Film Production. Film editing had become my life. Quite often, I'd end up sleeping in the lab, since I'd work into the wee hours of the night, and have missed the train to go home. There wouldn't have been any point in leaving, since I had class at 9am anyway.
Three weeks out of school, I landed a full time job. I am currently working at a TV station, based out of Toronto, and I have been working here for over a year now. It's fantastic. I work nights, so I get a lot of time to myself, and I'm almost doing the job that I had in mind when I went to school. I'd never thought about broadcast before, but my skills translated quite well, and here I am in their Master Control.
Why, when things are seemingly going so well, would I want to go back to school?
I love radio.
Ever since I was a little kid, I've found radio absolutely enamoring. I work in broadcast. We do satellite feeds, we cue up commercials, we do programming, and run around and fix things when they, inevitably, go wrong. There's pressure, there's deadlines, there's the threat of losing my job if I seriously mess something up. It's nice. But we don't have DJs, we don't have music, and we don't have that magical aura that goes along with radio.
Two days ago, we had an audio engineer come in to help us figure out why our audio is so awful half of the time. After I'd worked an eleven hour shift, I was expected to listen to a guy teach us about audio levels. I was pissed.
However, this guy (Andrew, I believe), was so damn enthralled with what he was talking about, that I couldn't help be excited about it. Audio peaks, thresholds, noise floors, target levels...this is the shit that gets me excited.
I have the smarts, the grades, and the drive to pull it off - For September 2007, I'm applying for engineering.

Those who work hardest usually get all the luck.
Work hard.

May your collective positive karma coalesce favorably for you in your pursuit.
I think "luck" is a misnomer.

If your voice is half as nice as you look, you'll do fine.

Good on you.
Being a college radio DJ was some of the most fun I've had.

Me too. It's a blast. And if I wasn't doing civil engineering, I'd definitely be doing audio engineering.

If you're talking about Electronics (electrical) Engineering, it isn't a bad
choice....
