But I'd like to know how many are actually urban myths like Winnebago being sued because A lady thought cruise control meant that the RV would totally control itself and sued when it crashed, that was urban myth. trhat one was.

Does the American jurisdiction use precedents from English Common law? I can't see how it wouldn't, but you know.
As a law student i have to say cases like this are the vast minority, and people's disenfranchisement with the legal system on the basis of stuff like this is unfair on the vast majority of legal workers.
