In the gap between your thoughts and your actions, there is an unoccupied chasm. A space filled with infinite opportunity, negligible consequences, and unadulterated bravado. It's a place that I revel in, a locus that I frequent more often than is healthy.
If anyone is familiar with Walter Mitty, it's me. My literary hero occupies the same headspace as me, but no-one yet has written my book.
Walter and I go a long way back. From the first time I observed him peel from reality, creating an artificial world in which he was king, I was hooked. I too dreamt of saving lives with emergency tracheotomies fashioned from my ballpoint pens, I too felt pain when Walter had to choose between the safety of the world and the love/life of his girlfriend.
In this world that we're in, we should all allow ourselves freedom in the abstract. Scratch that, I'm not sure of your life. I know that I need to. Otherwise this endless muck of day- in day-out amounts to nothing.
