Rob Berg came up with a fantastical word the other night when he and I were enjoying a few rye and cokes at a very trendy yet undertoned Vancouver watering hole.
Freedomish.
The second he pronounced it I was startled by its greatness and truthiness.
Freedomish.
I'm a lover of words. This word is worth loving because in it you can see the smudge between real freedom--the freedom we used to know--and the New Freedom, more of a freedomish type of arrangement where one is permitted to feel free so long as there is someone else out there still hovering in dark control of it all.
This will make more sense to you in about seven minutes.

This year has been a real eye opener for me. More than that--it's been the year that my eyes were squeezed out of my head, plucked free with rusty hedge clippers and then stomped on by blackboot wearing warriors of the New Freedom.

A few weeks ago, through the magic of techmology, I was tracked down by an RCMP officer here in Edmonton--he was a very genuine man, this I could tell instantly. Before meeting with him I asked if he was going to arrest me, he said no. I asked if I needed a lawyer--again he said no, he just wanted to meet with me to discuss some things. I agreed to go, but I brought my lawyer anyway.
Imagine this--

Kids are dumber than ever, healthcare is a fucking disaster all over North America and yet for some reason keeping shitfuck controlled is an appropriate expenditure. Freedomish.

How many times have I said Clinton was a crook? How many times have I said that going the way of Great Britain, which is where the dems would eventually lead us, is a mistake? More than you can fucking count.

It is up to everyone to research their local races and vote accordingly. This includes going back over voting records and reading a bit more than just bylines on how they voted. Sometimes you have to actually READ the finer print contained within the bill to see that Republicans overwhelmingly voted against expanding benefits for veterans, for example.
It might take a bit of research to figure out if your congressman has served your interests or the "special" kind. You'll probably find plenty of Republicans worthy of retaining their jobs. Ron Paul of Texas is one good example.
I have no beef with the Republican party as a whole, and I pity those who think that simply voting democrats in is going to solve all our problems. All I can say is, it's been over a decade since they've been given a chance, maybe that lesson will sink in. And if it didn't, they will get the boot too come '08.
Ideally, everyone would say "fuck em both" and vote green or libertarian, but that day has not yet come, I fear.
That said, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy casting my vote for a libertarian candidate against Senator Luger here in Indiana. That asshole has been in office since before I was BORN! It's time to kick his ass to the curb, whether he's got a democratic challenger or not.

It depends on the context. I dont know the incident in question. If shitfuck said something to the tune of "You should kill George Bush", then you are not protected. However, if shitfuck said "I believe that George Bush deserves to be killed because..." then he actually is protected.
The question is if his words were meant to incite someone to take action on his statement.

Charges don't matter anymore--this is the fact I've had to wrap my head around, but with the help of a few lawyers, criminal lawyers included, I'm understanding it.
The American government can label anyone as a danger, they don't need probable cause anymore, they don't even need the courts. Habeas Corpus is dead. International borders are dissolved.
With the help of some very prominent people here in Canada I have a network established--it includes authors, journalists, lawyers and politicians--if I suddenly dissappear, like Maher Arar did, people will know about it.
