Working in my hotel on the weekend can be boring.
Booo-oo-ring.
We're not at all busy, being off of the highway, but from time to time we get the folks who prefer to stay off the beaten path for one reason or the other.
Sometimes this is a good thing.
The quirky people who have good hearts and plenty of stories to tell.
Sometimes this is a bad thing.
The assholes who are known to every hotel in the area as folks who try to scam freebie or discounted rooms.
And then you get people who seem to be a little bit of everyone, all rolled up into one small little ball of crap.
Like Mr. Baron. (No, it's not his real name.)
He's a nice old guy. Funny, engaging, smart, interesting. He's got stories from fighting in WWII to growing ancient during the first tech craze in the 80's.
The problem is, he's also a penny-pinching miser who probably masturbates with the loose change he steals from couch cushions.

Anyway.
So Mr. Baron checked in on Thursday, third time in the past 3 months. He came up to the desk, I swiped his card.
While I'm waiting for the card to authorize, he said that the last time he was here, his room was very very noisey "what with all the traffic you get around here" (after 9PM, we're lucky to get a car driving by every 4-5 minutes) and that his AC was very clunky sounding, and that he would like to be comped in some way.
Not for the night or anything, but for his entire 4 night stay.
Since we already knew he was going to try this (he did the last few times he was staying here, too) we'd already had a note in place in the reservation for no comps, no upgrades yadda yadda yadda.
Sadly, whoever wrote it put it in the wrong field.
Ya see, one message line is for in-house use. The guest doesn't see it on the reg card or anything. We use it to remind staff that someone is a Gold Level this or a Trip that or there was a room type change that they might ask about.
The other one is for messages TO the guest. Someone called, package in room, shit like that.
So anyway, he sees this note, and goes into a fit.
I know, it seems strange that a guy would go nuts over a note or something, but he had a good reason.
The note said, and I quote: "This old guy is a pain in the ass, always asking for something he doesn't deserve. If he asks for any comp or upgrade, politely tell him to fuck off."

I know it well, these people are always out for a free ride. They'll do anything they want, cause problems with their behavior until we finally have to talk to them about it, then they complain we harassed them and they want a free night. It never ends...
