Khalid Adem, 30, was found guilty of aggravated battery and cruelty to children. Prosecutors said he used scissors to remove his daughter's clitoris in his family's Atlanta-area apartment in 2001. The child's mother, Fortunate Adem, said she did not discover it until more than a year later."

I know of a girl at uni whose entire reason for going through tertiary education is so that she can become a diplomat and help put an end to what she refers to as "FGM" - female genital mutilation.

Way back in the day in Language Arts class in grade 9, a group did a presentation about women's rights, and they included a passage from an autobiography of a girl who was genitally mutilated (and at an age where she was old enough to remember the process).
A girl in my class turned green and another fainted. I laughed at them, but was only able to do so because I had read that same passage in Reader's Digest, so therefore, I knew what to expect.
So to summarize;
