Politicians as a group pretty much make me sick. I hate almost all of those greedy hypocritical lying abusive scum bags. That being said, the following reasons are why I vote predominately Republican.
I don't like paying taxes.
The US needs a strong military.
Free trade works, protectionism doesn't.
Welfare and such is unfair.
Strong corporations able to compete in the world market keep the US economy from tanking and taking the rest of the world with it.
Religion should be allowed.
Terrorists should be killed.
Abortion is a disgusting method of birth control.
Communism/socialism doesn't work in the real world.
As far as I can tell, Democrats disagree with all of the above statements. The party seems to run completely on bashing the other side with no offer of any better way to do anything. Both political parties are a disgrace. However, to me, the choice of the lesser of two evils is a no brainer.

there should be a "no party" system consisting stricly of independants. anyone who does a "straight republican/democrat" vote really doesnt give a shit enough to really weight the options of each candidate.
its never "vote for the best"... or "vote for the one you agree with the most".
its "vote for the one you hate the least"
im always stuck with, "if it came down to it, who would i want holding the button the least?" then i vote for the other guy.

(It's true that Democrats have no fiscal responsibility, they are terrible with money. It's "the people's" money. That being said, however, republican administrations have been known to tax citizens as well. How does a society function without taxes? Roads cannot be privately owned.)

(That's an incomplete sentence. What about the corporations? I assume you are saying they SHOULD be able to compete. While that's true, there is an accountability issue that arises from the shared ownership of corporations. Their business model makes it so that they have to always be making money, no matter what the method. That can lead to some very irresponsible business and accounting practices. That is the primary concern about corporations. It's complicated though, but I don't know how far you are really thinking into it: considering your statement.)
Religion should be allowed.
(Allowed to what? Rule everything? I would label republicans as the more religiously intolerant party between the two.)

Agreed with communism. However, the Scandinavian countries have proven quite strongly that a social democratic state can be strong. They have the highest productivity rates in all the industrialized world, while still being top 5 in average household income.

I don't like paying taxes, but I understand that they make all those wonderful governmental type things such as police, fire departments and clean drinking water possible.
The US needs a strong military, to protect itself from foriegn hostile action. However seeing how we have two oceans as a buffer and a few thousand nuclear warheads I don't see the need to protect ourselves coming about soon. Explosions and tanks are cool, but even you boneheads can't refute that we went to war for less than honorable reasons.
Free trade works, protectionism doesn't. Don't you mean free trade works for us while we jew the rest of the world. Seriously, try traveling around a bit, after you see some of the Mumbai slums try telling me that "free trade works"
