To take a note from NoFX:

"So lets stop with the "WE ARE #1" bullshit. America is not #1. We're like #11 or #12. For the 91% of americans who haven't travelled outside this country (such as George W. before he was "elected"). There are several countries that are arguably better than this one. I would put Australia, Canada, Sweden, Holland, and Denmark on the top of the list for sure."

They go on to explain freedoms some of them have (prostitution, socialized medicine, gay marriage, abolishment of death penalty, drugs, etc.)

Almost every U.S. citizen that says "America is the most free!" and is asked, "What about Canada?" replies with, "Canadians are stupid." Then they go on about how they speak. What the fuck? Were does this come in contact with the freedom part? Talk funny = Tyranny? Just admit it, Canada is a good country. Maybe not good, but as >= the US. Someone asked my teacher once, and he had no response but, "Well no, we are more free than Canada." or something and did not go on to explain.

We need to quite the bullshit. Fucking proganda. Brainwashing. Damn. Fuck that.

Shaun - "Canada and Australia are 'hoes' in the U.K. corral. Bottom dollar bitches. And Britain and the U.S. are like super pimp brothers. They admire each other, despite petty differences."

Was your dildo on "high" when you wrote that. What a fucking moron.

"idiots that took a shit in the street to protest a war they knew nothing about."

When I was in Sydney for business I met some marines and they told me that when all the vets come home, there will be a lot more dissent about this war now they have faced action in the theatre of war instead of just training. I remember a few of them discussing how they are angry now it's over and no WMD have been discovered - and angry now they have been to Iraq and seen how the people treated them - they felt they fought a war they "knew nothing about".

You guys are in the armed forces - have you heard similar things from people who were there (in any capacity)? I would love to hear what they are telling you... even if you have to be Random Joe to say it.

"Right, because Martin Luther King and Ghandi were both naive, and their protesting didn't change a thing.

Broad sweeping statements generally mean you're wrong about whatever you're talking about. "

nice one. i'll give you that. what i won't give you is current broad sweeping protests. there are more troops in iraq than people protesting in washington or san francisco. we have about 230,000 troops away from their families defending people they probaly don't like. they are the ones who should be protesting. they aren't. the only protesters are the ones who haven't done shit for their country. the ones who want change that won't effect them. and like other countries, you will see the same people at every protest. thats right. focus on the stone throwers or the cop haters. you'll recognize them from all the other protests. special interests groups import protesters. here in korea most don't even know what they are protesting. all they know is that they got the day off from school. ghandi knew what he was talking about. so did his people. same for the doc. the new wave of protests offer no solution, only turmoil.

if your gonna protest, make sure you know what your talking about and be prepared to give a solution.

When i said laws dont do shit i meant for drugs. a Law will not stop people trying to be cool and get addicted. Laws can't stop addiction. Apparantly laws don't help prostitution. Most people don't do these because they could easily fuck up your life, not because it is against the law.

Right, because Martin Luther King and Ghandi were both naive, and their protesting didn't change a thing.

Broad sweeping statements generally mean you're wrong about whatever you're talking about.

And prostitution... I can think of good reasons people would see prostitutes... what about people who have to travel 4 days a week for their job and don't have time to build a relationship?

Drugs... that was just asinine... I really hope you didn't back that one up Andy...

Hey IM me sometime. We haven't talked in awhile.

That's exactly what i am saying. Other countries have these freedoms, nothing seems to be causing huge disasters. If we are the most free we would also have these. I don't think prostitution is good, but laws don't do shit. Same with drugs.

Jeremy, i was backing up what Ref said because it made me realize that you always see young, niave people protesting, that haven't even served in the military. i was not brainwashed by the military, but it made me see the world from a different perspective, that's for sure. maybe if protesters and Americans who hate their own country served in the military, they would change their tune. maybe not, but maybe so...

you make sense seanfogy. i am over in korea right now. some of the worlds most violent protests take place over here. funny thing is, government service is madatory for males. they go through 2 years of college, then 2 years in the military or police, then back to college. notice how you will not see older people in those protests proudly shown by cnn. i have talked to a few of the locals about this. they say that they were young punks just like some of the assholes on this site once. once they served though, they felt a sense of nationalism and pride they have never felt before. they realized that you change policy through the power of vote, not violent inane protests after the fact. they never change anything. About freedoms- the only people who need prostitution legalized are losers who can't get laid like everyone else. it isn't hard to find a slut. they are everywhere. it isn't that hard to get into any other womans pants either. prostitution is for those who give up trying. protest are for those too young to vote or understand. drugs are for societies idiots. name a freedom that other countries have that we don't have that is worth a damn. fucking hippies.

Kick ass, I thank Bored for finally acknowledging how far back the "Best Countries of the World" - (or something like that) - American really is. I think Canada is only #6 for women, but for men it's #1 or #2.

"Canada would be occupied by Koreans if it weren't for the U.S. " True, or the Commies sometime during the Cold War.

cheesygoodness: "It's considered a compliment to be called "you convict" ..." It's not - well, maybe for a few slack jaws in Sydney.

Australia only started receiving convicts after American independence - they were your forefathers first... I really hope you know that more convicts went from Britain to the US and Canada... tell me you do?

And as much as I love my country, I will never use that to take away from the US.

You have a great land and should be proud. There are, however, matters that need to be resolved and they do affect the rest of the world, so brace for international opinions, support and dissent. It's better as words than flames.

What country are you living in? We can't say shit. Sure you can say you disagree and shit, but somethings you say and you'll be thrown in jail.

I know, prostitution is bad, so are drugs. But it is more free. It was naming more freedoms.

Laws haven't really stopped these things, anyways.

Im about sick and tired of this discussion when I hear it anywhere. TV, newspaper, or just random people talking about it anywhere. You fools argue about "America's #1" "No its not" "Yes it is" "Fuck you" What do you base that on? Those who say its #1, only say it because: a) we have a great military. b) the so called patriotism and brotherhood from all the red white and blue thats been flying in front of your houses AFTER 911. c) we can say whatever we want about the government and get away with it. d)we have a great military. Oooooooh we have a lot of big planes with big bombs and big tanks with big bombs. Im sure most of you who come on this site (along with myself) havnt been around long enough to remember Vietnam or Korea (or add any past war besides the Gulf war and this past one). We've won two wars in 70 years. How impressive. The Gulf War and the Gulf War II were jokes. What the fuck do you think was going to happen. We show up in Iraq to see 90 percent of their armed forces already surrendered. Big freakin deal. You say were number one because we have all these freedoms that dont mean shit. Sure we can say whatever we want but nobody thats anybody listens. Before we even went into Iraq, there were countless numbers of protests and debates for not going to war. What good is the freedom of speech if nobody cares what you have to say? This post starts with a quote from a group of burn out punks talking about how this country sucks because "prostitution, socialized medicine, gay marriage, abolishment of death penalty, and drugs" arent legal. If you honestly think a country's policy on prostitution and drugs makes a country great, you should cut off your dick immediatly, because you are an idiot and any kids you raise will be idiots. This kind of argument makes me wish the hard working enlisted folks serving and making sacrifices for you, just so you can sit at home on your computer and make ignorant comments about shit that you have no fucking idea about, could get on national TV and be interviewed about OUR views on this. What if we quit and said "fuck it" when we rolled up in Iraq, and let Saddam come on over here and rule this country? Every time one of you made a post about how shitty our government is would be gassed or just plain shot in the face.

Jackass,

First, you don't establish any criteria for judging the "best" country in the world, so, jackass, I am assuming that by "best" you mean "most free." Let's work from that, shall we?

The five countries you named (Australia, Canada, Sweden, Holland, Denmark) are five of the most socialistic countries in the world. Socialism is a curtailing of economic freedom. So, jackass, the five countries you listed, while slightly more free in terms of personal liberties than the U.S., are among the most oppressed economically.

I will be the first to admit that America is not as free as it should be. I will not contend that it is the freest (most free?) country in the world. I am no huge fan of either King George or "that Nazi Ashcroft."

That doesn't change the fact that you are a jackass.

I am so tired of you ignorant street punk morons quoting some clueless indie-rock band just because they are a clueless indie-rock band. America-bashing doesn't make you cool.

Think for yourself, but until then, shut the hell up.

I don't care if the US is #1 or not, the fact that a lot of people (Americans) do not have a full picture of their governments motives, foreign policy, 'elastic' ethics, economical policy, which makes them say, and worse, BELIEVE that the US is perfect, and #1 on a lot of platforms.

What is wrong with this country is people buying 10,000 flags and assuming they have made a difference. Flags are the biggest waste. Nationalism is arrogance. You are not better because you were born somewhere different. It's bullshit. People getting killed, can't eat, can't drink all because they were born into a bad area. Maybe we should get off our nationalistic asses and go help out these fucking countries, and no I don't mean get Sally Stuthers to doa freakin' commerical.

We kick everyone's asses and have more freedoms than most countries even know exist.

Now I never said we are not good, I am just implying that we have a room for improvement. We should not just say, "okay, so this is the best we can do, I guess, lets just stop trying." What if people said that in England?

Oh and a couple of other things:

Mick, people who think that people who yell at flag wavers are a problem are more of a problem than the people they criticize. Not that you'll be back to this post since you didn't write it.

When people say "America is #1" they are talking about the military.

If it's in reference to freedom, America has been on the front line of the war for freedom for over 60 years, and there is a certain amount of status that accrues for that.

As far as #1 in every respect, don't be silly.

America is definitely not #1 when it comes to repressing minorities, just as an example.

Now, if you think that to be the #1 "overall" country, you need to be socialist, which is what you seem to be saying, well you're entitled to your opinion, but socialism shouldn't be equated with freedom.

In fact, the more taxes you pay, the more your freedom is reduced in very significant and real ways.

BTW for the record, I would love to see America slide to the left, but your analysis of what freedom is and what makes a country great seem to be puerile at best.

Bored: If you honestly believe that I weep for your stupidity. As an American citizen you have more freedoms then many people in the world. Amazingly enough you even have the power to elect an official who isn't for 'big government' in the next upcoming election. WoW

Yes I do have the power to elect a different official but guess what.... politicians are liars, if they werent do you really think that we would have the ones in office that we do. Also one vote out of millions isn't going to make much difference. Yes we do have more freedoms then most and I am not complaning about that.... what I am complaining about is the fact that so many of the freedoms that we do have the government is trying to away. http://www.ubersite.com/cgi-bin/message_get.cgi?message=1056962714228210826

I love being an American. We kick everyone's asses and have more freedoms than most countries even know exist.

Canada:

Pros:
Only useful because pot is legal in lots of areas there.
Can drink when 18.

Cons:
Bunch of French and Ukranians (I'm Ukranian and believe me Ukes are quite annoying in large quantities)

Australia:
Pros:
Beautiful countryside
Pretty fun accent

Cons:
Whole lotta nothing outside the major cities
It's considered a compliment to be called "you convict"
Goddam skwaking birds all over the place..they may be exotic birds but please throw a grenade in their midst.

Obviously, you are not an American, because if you were, you wouldn't be bashing on America like that.

I'll admit, Australia is a beautiful country, and I would like to go there someday.

You get a -2 for bashing on America, and for even thinking about mentioning Canada as being better than America. Dumbass.

I agree... we are not as free as some people try to pretend... Our government is running our lives, telling us what to think, wear, speak and act.

I want to share something with you -- the three little sentences that will
get you through life. Number one, `Cover for me.' Number two, `Oh, good
idea, boss.' Number three, `It was like that when I got here.'
