Star's one of my closest friends. Star's like the older sister I never had. Star's the one I go to for advice. Star has cancer.
I met her about about a year ago, at my local book shops book group for kids. She's not a kid she's 23, but she works there so she was aloud to attend. I was sitting next to her and her friend, who's name I don't remember. Our first book to discuss was Harry Potter 6. When the discussion came around to the nature of Snape Star's friend immediately said he was evil and Star slapped her. She then started muttering furiously how Snape was NOT evil, how everyone misunderstood him and how much she loved him. Suffice to say she's a pretty strange character.
It was decided the next book was Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. I should probably mention her real name isn't Star, but I didn't know her real name at the time, so I referred to her as Mertyle, because she looks just like moaning Mertyle in the Harry potter films. This time she sat there with a little note book absolutely beaming, she basicly didn't stop talking all the time, she loved this book and wanted everyone to know. After our hour was up she came up to me and told me to join the internet Percy club, so I did.
The next time I went to that shop she told me the author was sighning at the shop soon and I should come, so I went. When I arrived she was dressed in a white toga and red cape (the book's about greek mytholagy) she started talking to me and it was really nice because she didn't treat me like an annoying little kid, she actually cared about my opinion. She then told me to join an online forum for the book. So i did, I got to know her alot better and meet all these really nice people in america.
I also learned her name is Toni, but I call her Star because that's her username. I soon found out she had cancer, had had it since she was 18. We used to meet up quite alot with my best friend, who also goes to book group. We can't meet up much any more because she's too sick. I guess I haven't been dealing with it so well, I had to come from school today because i couldn't stop crying. I was reading coleys post last night and it helped me a little bit, because it made me think of all those people who have survived and I'm just trying to think that she will too.

It's such a genius post though. The post of a little girl in a relationship with a much older woman. It's told in such a sincere and innocent way that it is genuinly moving. So refreshing.

Well! Lets pretend for a moment that I am initiating a preternatural courtship with a lonely young girl-child. I want her to feel like she doesn't need to have her gaurd up around me, that in spite of the fact I am an older stranger that I am not in a position of adult power over her.
So I say I have cancer, that I'm unwell, so that she feels we're on more equal footing.
Then I tell her how special I think she is and how much fun I have being around her. Then I invite her either too my place or some other secluded spot where we hug a lot. Then we go back there and have wild monkey sex. After a while I tell her I never had cancer and I just blurted it out because I didn't know what to say. She forgives me and we ride of into the sunset together for more wild monkey sex.
Then we get found out and it all goes Pete Tong, as we say in the British Isles.
