Had been around Übersite for awhile. Had at least two major runs. Her specialty was being a general attention whore and telling sad stories about her life, which may or may not be true. Liked to go to ubercons. From what I gather, she got on a lot of people's nerves. I don't know, I wasn't there. Either way, some people didn't like her.
She would do things without thinking them through, and without regard to whom she was hurting in the process, all in the name of her attention whoriness. Example: the time Justin left his birth certificate (or some such thing) in her car, and she posted it on Übersite. She forgot to delete some of his personal information, and had to get Bart to delete the post. Yes, one of the few actual deleted ubersite posts.
Another example was when she emailed pictures of her genitalia to an untrusworthy uberuser. This guy and her were into some sort of thing which I have no substaniated details of. Naked pictures were exchanged. Or given to him at the very least. Thist "man" ends up posting them on Übersite, and the denziens jump all over it. Urbane_Mischief effectively self-destructs when all she gets is this negative attention, this lack of dignity from the Übersite community in general. It is painful to watch this all unfold over the next few weeks, mid 2005 if I remember correctly, about August.
I remember with dismay that I may have jumped on the anti-Urbane bandwagon at some point. I don't even know her, let alone harbor any personal grudge against her. Furthermore, it seems disgusting to me that anyone would cross that line; stooping so low as to completely embarrass and rob a person of whatever dignity they may have. We all come here as naked children, and develop whatever standing in the uber pecking order there may be; it is unnecessarily malicious and cruel to try to destroy someone at a personal level for their goings on at some website.
And to you Johnny-Come-Latelies who make reference to this incident; you really are the lowest of the low. You would slander someone with the ever lasting details of some embarrassing incident you fuckers weren't even around for, then take that low road JUST TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE WITH THE COMMUNITY WHICH DID SUCH A DISPICABLE THING.

It is happening again people. A person has opened themselves up, and shown you his weaknesses and fears, and you all jump for his jugular.
Why?
Because he "annoys" you.
He annoys you with his being fat

Even when he attempts to improve his life situation (so he says) it annoys you.
So what now? A constant barrage of personal attacks and insults whenever he peeks his face around here. I cannot even remember why we are all supposed to hate him.
I was having a conversation with a friend of mine, and she compared him to a 19 year old kid with ADHD, which is exactly what he is. You don't hate him for it, you accept things, and move on.
If you are so annoyed by him, why even acknowledge him?
Answer: Maintain the peckinng order.

Jason is not a bad person. He is working through his life, facing his obstacles, and doing what he needs to do to survive.
I feel that the reason so many of you hate him is because you see yourself in his weaknesses and suffering. Inability to cope with that self-loathing causes you to lash out, when you would really be doing the world a favour by cutting yourself.
Its also sad to see Jason's apparent willingness to subject himself to the abuse. I really do wish him well; I don't like to see anyone hurt.
And if his lastest exploits are true, and someone did have access to his accounts, I hope they rot if they touched any of it. Thieves are the lowest of the low in our society, they are good for nothing worthless scum.

I came to realize that perhaps the great social experiment that is Übersite has worked, and some conclusions can be reached.
We, as humans, are no less savage than we were a thousand years ago. We just go about our Man v. Man conflict a bit different nowadays.
It was not intelligence that got us at the top of the food chain. It was because we were the craziest motherfuckers in the jungle, and we had no qualms about ruining the lives of whatever we percieved as weak.
Here's to us, humanity.

Hey there, champ, take it easy, take it easy. You will see in my first two lines the use of the word "given". This is used in the sense of a geometry theorem, not cold and hard facts. IE: Given x=3 and y=2, solve x + y - x etc etc etc.
I was simply using those statistics as an example (which I, but probably no one else found interesting), and using the "givens" as demonstrated in the aforementioned. I should have added a few more "given"s but I was lazy.

I've been around here over three years now, I don't watch reality tv shows (because they were created by SATAN) but uber is my guilty pleasure; the drama, the cliques.
I ignored the whole urbane thing because to be honest, it wasn't entirely her fault a picture of her twat ended up on here but she was a bit irritating. I couldn't decide what side of the fence I sat on there.
Jay though, seriously those responsible have something very, very wrong with them. It's not hunting mentality, it's not primordial, it's fucking schoolyard tactics. Some new kids turn up, gang together and drive one of the other kids out. I've never had a problem with the guy, I actually get on with him quite well. It's a shame that the children that drove him out will be staying because they're all a waste of imaginary internet space, the sad thing is that they don't realise this.

Yes, I'm to blame for never defending Urbane on uber. Absolutely. If you say we're not allowed to make fun of her, then why should we go and defend someone? I personally never had a problem with her. I might have made a crack at her in passing once, but then I do the same (and even worse) with my friends.
While I agree that it is deplorable for n00bs and relative n00bs to chastise and tear away at the memory of someone for the sake of "fitting in" a non-real community, I find you tend to dismiss those with lower "rank" than you. As if X number of hits really means anything.
I could go on ranting against this post, but then again you may be right. And I haven't been on as much. So rock on with your bad self.

I'm glad that someone brought up this point. The biggest strength of Ubersite is also its biggest weakness and that is that it creates a sense of place where everyone can/must interact with everyone else. You can ignore people by not reading their stuff, but inevitably, it takes too much energy to ignore all of them. In the "real world", physical limitations force you to ignore about seven billion people and only interact with the one thousand or so that you may see on a daily basis, and even then most of the interaction is a mere acknowledgment as you walk past each other.
When forced to interact constantly without an option available to distance oneself, naturally the virtual room will seem crowded and people will start to push each other around, leave, and remove themselves from the chaos. That's basically what's happened here.

Also, I think there's something to be said about the power of anonymity. I'll bet that a significatn percentage of the negative comments on Uber wouldn't be publically put forth if the writers didn't have a safe, anonymous internet identity to hide behind. I can't imagine people verbally attacking a person so consistently when they're actually face to face with the object of their disdain. Uber makes it convenient and safe to be a tough guy.

The biggest cringe inducing factor I've found is when someone starts receiving negative attention from a few select and specific Uberers. You know what's coming next.
1) Receiving negative attention. Starts off with simple bickering in reviews. Usually progresses to a hate post directed at them or, at the very least, a 3 line STFU post. The hate/stfu posts frequently go to most heated where others who dislike said person begins fighting with them as well.
2) Human nature being what it is, the targeted person usually goes on a campaign to reverse their image. Takes the form of either 1) explanation posts (I did it because....) 2) a TMI post (not ala Tiger). "Bad things in my life and past are why......" Urbane did this a lot. or 3) a campaign of posts that are (or attempt to be) light, humorous, self-depreciating, etc. This almost never works and usually has the opposite effect.
3) All out war complete with personal stuff of the target getting posted (real names, addresses, pics).
4) Toten. The target's Uber life is essentially over.
5) Aftermath. The target's name becomes an adjective or definition. References to them are made constantly regardless of whether they still make occassional appearances or are completely absent. """

While this may ring true, it's fucking dumb and it's the anti-post right now. Look what greening did to bret, where's the justice there? I don't have time to read the reviews on this yet because I'm off out in a min.
However two things spring straight to mind.
Firstly.....
Why do people always post on this site telling EVERYONE who reads the post that they are 'assholes' and 'the pits of society' and 'sad' and 'have no lives'... all this generalising pisses me off.
I manage how and when I use uber and I am happy with that. I don't need someone categorising me because of THEIR perceptions.
Secondly....
This site is a reflection of real life (cue the REAL LIFE V UBER agrument) it is populated by real people all of who are different, just like real life.
Some are assholes (just like real life), some don't get along (just like real life), some would even rob, steal from, humiliate or kill one another given half the chance (Just like real life), other like and respect one another (Just like etc and so on....)
Bad things happen in real life, bad things happen on Uber.
You have to look after yourself as you would in the big wide world.

I read some study where researchers found that interaction is best in groups of 12 or less.
Once a group has over 128 members, primal instincts kick in and people start behaving in socially unacceptable ways.
I suspect this is what has happened here.

I'm glad that someone brought up this point. The biggest strength of Ubersite is also its biggest weakness and that is that it creates a sense of place where everyone can/must interact with everyone else. You can ignore people by not reading their stuff, but inevitably, it takes too much energy to ignore all of them. In the "real world", physical limitations force you to ignore about seven billion people and only interact with the one thousand or so that you may see on a daily basis, and even then most of the interaction is a mere acknowledgment as you walk past each other.
When forced to interact constantly without an option available to distance oneself, naturally the virtual room will seem crowded and people will start to push each other around, leave, and remove themselves from the chaos. That's basically what's happened here.
Now the reaction could be completely justified, but there are only a handful of people who know that for certain.
