"When is it?"

Sunrise. Vergil sat on the hood of our transport, gazing at the horizon. "Around seven, I'd expect."

We were parked in the middle of nowhere--God knows how we got there. I shielded my eyes. The sun had aspired to be a bright bastard on that day. "Gah. Where the hell are we?"

Vergil shrugged, wordless. I noted a large amount of glint in his eyes. He was crying.

An awkward silence urged me to climb out and stretch. "I'm guessing you got information on this guy, so where are we going?" asked I. Our lack of direction hadn't occurred to me until that point, which should tell you exactly what kind of person I used to be.

The silent tree-man, my only friend in that unknown place, stood to his feet and began to walk. Seconds passed. Then a minute. Vergil became a speck in the distance, so I chased. "Where the fuck are you going, you crazy bastard?!" I yelled. "The car is back there!"

He stopped and looked over his shoulder, just as I reached him. "We're out of gas." His voice was a mere level above a whisper. "The next town is a few miles this way."

I groaned and demanded information. Vergil ignored me; he didn't know where we were going. Turning back wasn't an option at that point. Away from home, without a car, without information, our only choice was to continue our forward motion.

Running back, I retrieved my drug sack. It was empty. The guns were out of ammo.

I was clueless.

I'm just saying, why not have two geniuses in the family? Sort of a
spare in case Bart's brain blows up.
