Not to harp on the same topic twice but this is _SO_ outrageous I think it's still worth posting. If you don't want to read all the bullshit below here's the summary:

Scumbag record company CEO inteviewed. When asked if his children pirate music the response was "I'm fairly certain that they have and fairly certain that they've suffered the consequences."

According to one article this guy pioneered the idea of suing individual users of P2P at random:
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20061204/003837.shtml

When asked what the consequences were: "I think I'll keep that within the family."

The lesson here is all that suing over music downloads for thousands of dollars the RIAA has been doing. Well that's only for lowly commoners. The children of record company executives are above the law unlike these regular people:

Fuck record companies and their executives!

CE-Oh no he didn't! Part XX - Warner Music CEO "fairly certain" his kids pirate music
Posted Dec 4th 2006 7:13AM by Ryan Block

We're going to assume you're well versed with the RIAA, just about the most god-forsaken industry group that ever did roam the earth (much like its unofficial partner in crime, the MPAA); and more importantly for the purposes of this post, Warner Music, one of the four major labels, which all, incidentally, back the RIAA. So what did Edgar Bronfman, CEO of Warner Music, have to say when questioned as to whether any of his seven kids pirate music? "I'm fairly certain that they have, and I'm fairly certain that they've suffered the consequences." Funny, we haven't heard about any inter-familial lawsuits involving Bronfman sr. v. Bronfman jr. concerning definitions in fair use and music piracy. In fact, given that he knows what pirates live in his house using his internet connection, it should only follow that he sue his children into eternal debt (not before having Warner Music shut off their household internet connection at the ISP level). After all, what's good for the goose is good -- ah forget it. Every time we try to apply logic and reason to the executives behind the RIAA our brains do a zero divide.

You, Bronfman! Monday at four o'clock, after school. Be there, punk.

[Thanks, Josh]

The most dangerous download of all
December 1st, 2006, filed by Robert MacMillan
Using online music services to share songs without paying for them may be illegal, but casual users don't usually find themselves under the steely gaze of an angry recording industry executive. Unless Dad is the head of Warner Music Group.

We asked Edgar Bronfman, the head of the world's fourth largest music company, at the Reuters Summit whether any of his seven kids stole music.

"I'm fairly certain that they have, and I'm fairly certain that they've suffered the consequences."

We couldn't begin to guess what that means. He explained to our Second Life reporter, Adam Pasick:

"I explained to them what I believe is right, that the principle is that stealing music is stealing music. Frankly, right is right and wrong is wrong, particularly when a parent is talking to a child. A bright line around moral responsibility is very important. I can assure you they no longer do that."

Great, but what did he do to them?

"I think I'll keep that within the family."

A new marketing and distribution system is needed this one is broken and run by retarded assholes.

It would be nice if one of these mega sellout mediocre whore bands like U2 or somebody would denounce the record companies and self-distribute online or something. They have enough money already but they don't really believe what they preach otherwise they would give all their money to charities instead of flying around in private jets all the time.
--------

Ah, yes, the downfall of U2 into preachy cheesiness. Where are the good old days of the Joshua Tree? Honestly, "Peace on Earth" doesn't make me want to support the band and their fight against AIDS, it makes me want to smash something with a sledgehammer.
And Heaven forbid Bono give up his $2500 bottle of wine at dinner.

Although I don't care for Mr. RIAA's statements, I can't condone music piracy either, being a musician and all. How else do you expect artists to reap profits for their efforts without entering into the marketing fray? Face it, unless you can get signed and promoted by a major label nowadays, an artist's chances of any major monetary success are slim to zilch.
-------------------------------------
I've got a few professional musician friends. They seem to make decent livings despite not being signed to major labels.

Aside from that, fuck the RIAA. They treat the majority of signed artists like indentured servants, and they treat the people who pay them (us music buyers) with the same disregard as a con-man treats his mark after the con is played. Fuck them.

I must admit that I feel very old-fashioned, relying on radio to keep up with new artists and musical trends, rather than P2P. I had Napster once upon a time on my PC in its early days, but the influx of spyware, viruses, and junk made me quickly shut it off...

...guess that'll teach me to search for bands named "Emu Scrotums" and "Donkey Dildos

Yeah, merchandise, concert tickets, direct album sales et al are terrific means to support your favorite bands....and I'm all in favor of a new system to replace the existing one. Just simply stating that with the current system, though, it's very difficult to break into mainstream and "make it" without a label or a "big time" artist endorsement. It sucks, but it's the way it is, until the majority of musicians decide to unite and change it.

I only buy cd's from local acts that sell their own music, and I buy one every time if I see a band I like (sometime's two or three as gifts). I know 100% of the procedes will got to the artist instead of something on the order of 25 cents. I don't want support the major labels at all for any reason and the VAST majority of the bands that sell their music through those channels aren't hurting for another quarter anyway. When they start supporting a better system (which they could since they are already popular) they can perhaps profit much more than a quarter from me and untill then fuck them.

I have something like 8000 music files at my last count.

I still buy CDs.

I support bands through purchases of merchandise and concert tickets, too.

Many bands support P2P, as well. There is a whole shitload of lusic I never would have been bothered to hear if Id had to go to a listening station to decide whether it was worth it. Many of the CDs I've downloaded I never would have paid for anyway, so there's no revenue lost. Whne I find something I truly like, I try to make it a point to buy it. The industry has probably made more money off me as a RESULT of piracy.

Me neither but I think it is news worthy when one of them is so arrogant as to allow himself to be quoted by the major media as saying "Yes my children are guilty of the "crime" that we are suing the shit out of those less fortunate than us for and no they will not pay the same penalties we expect people of lessor means to pay/endure." That is fucking horseshit and this guy should be stoned. We know alot of people think that way but how fucking arrogant is it to just come out and say it blatantly in the media like that?
