Yeah, that Zen V has been on the short list. He doesn't need anything too cutting edge or with a huge capacity, but I don't want anything too cheap, either..that looks about right.
Imma keep one of the Samsungs in mind for myself next time, maybe. My Z-5 (?) is sleek and works fairly well, but the touch pad's sensitivity/lack thereof sucks sometimes.

I have a Samsung 4GB myself, the one that looks like a nano, about 2 years old..it has its pros and cons. I saw some of the new samsung touch screens..they look pretty sharp.
