I only have 40 gigs on this E-Mac. Currently, I have only 2.58 gigs remaining free.

That's not good. Especially considering I went on a mass deletion spree after my first...

. . . experiment.

You see, OSX3.9 has a program called iMovie in it. I never used it until yesterday. It would seem that creating lil' .mov thingies take up a lot of space.

Now I think I'll try and take up some of Uber's bandwidth!!!

The .mov should (I say SHOULD) be able to work on Quicktime and/or RealPlayer. This is assuming that the upload even works and I don't totally crash Bart's server somehow.

Based on the movie, it's called "A Silent Hill Memory," and it contains my Enochian track "Ancestors Rise Again." It plays for a little over 3 minutes.

Let's see if this works - click on the hyper-linked "attachment" below...

Knowing nothing about the program, all I feel qualified to to say is: it's alright. Interesting use of lighting, but otherwise unremarkable.

microsoft are fucking rubbish - and only a bumlord doesn't know that. they've never ever produced a quality format or product.

as for the imac - have a look around - you should easily be able to pick all that up

i don't watch anything with a .mov extension. apple tries so hard, but comes up short every time. especially when it comes to video. i don't know where in the hell everyone got the idea that macs were good for shit like that. at least microsoft is on track with VC-1. apple is still toying with that h.264 crap... losers.

there are no longer emacs. The closest you will get is the imac sans dedicated graphics card - which would be ideal for you

REALLY??? I just got this E-Mac 2 years ago. Well, that helps me choose...

I just need about 100 to 150 gigs and 512 ram. A DVD burner would be nice, too.

This thing was awesome when I got it, but so much has updated the last few years. I'm gonna be building a website soon, and I need better stuff. There are SO many programs that I don't use, but I'm stuck paying for. I just delete them for more space.

1 - Yeah, this was my first time using the program. I've never worked with digital images outside of basic .jpg's and photoshop. I didn't know how to grab video content or where I could find .mpg's to use. Hell, all of these images I stole from Goggle. I didn't think this was some great work of art, I was just curious about how the program worked and how uploads were like.

2 - I realized I wasn't clear before. Making one of these things takes up about 3 gigs on my hard drive. However, I've discovered that most of that is saved programming from the creation of the .mov and once I'm happy with the final project, I can just delete all that. However, even after trashing unwanted stuff and extra nonsense, I still only have about 6 gigs left - - 20 gigs of music and more documents and .jpg's than any normal human should have...

3 - Although iMovie has controls much like GarageBand, I still found myself limited. I don't know why. There were tons of effects that iMovie wouldn't allow me to use. Strange. I've used Garage Band to create, re-master and remix songs. I think there's only a few people on this site who have heard my shitty music.

4 - I'm not going to bother getting an external drive to bulk my gig count. I plan on getting a new Mac sometime this spring once OSX5 comes out. Still trying to figure out if I want another E-style or sell out for the I-style.

5 - This has had the most informative and honest reviews. Seriously, except for Sepsis, I thank everyone for chiming in...

It's Apple Shift 3 for full screen shot - and Apple Shift 4.

If you hit Space after 4 - you can even grab a window without having to draw it.

Fucker. I still can't figure how to capture images or video FROM A DVD onto my iMac. It's driving me fucking crazy.

====================

Press F4 to do a whole ScreenGrab or F3 to be able to select a part of the screen to grab. It may be the other way around. But that's how you do it.

I've tried every variation of that you can imagine. No soap.

I'd keep away from the Lacie Porsche drives - despite their appearance - they are tempremental and have a bad reputation for reliability. *glowers at his own*

due to the pixel dimensions that are set - it's not like they gang up and fuck with your video. You could still download this and grow it in quicktime player (or VLC etc) and it will look ok - better if you use H264 compression - which scales very nicely indeed

My work's restriction on streamed video means I can't look at it here -but small size will be due to pixels.

You see - when you export for web etc - your movie is reduced in size - when in fact - from the sound of it - you may have been better dropping frame rate/colour depth and sound quality.

drop me an email some time and we'll have a talk.

Capturing a still image from a dvd is an interesting thing - as apple have it set so that if you load up dvd player - it will disable screenshots (a nod to the movie industry)

Instead - use VLC to play your dvds (it is also a superb package ) http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

Make sure you quit dvd player first

Ripping dvds to disk on a mac http://handbrake.m0k.org/

A painless process which produces video you can drop straight into iMovie.

Running your emac with such little free space will cause slowdowns and general misery.

Buy yourself an external firewire drive (firewire is far far far better than USB2 for data transfer- particularly video)

I know how difficult it is to use the movie programs provided by apple, and the music was OK, but this was really somewhere between a movie and a slideshow. Really, what I'm trying to say is that for a first try (I'm assuming given your thoughts in your actual post) this was incredibly good, but for someone with your creativity, it seemed kind of lacking.

A really neat thing to do would be to animate your Uber-assemble posts

======================

Capturing video is trickier. If you rip the DVD you can cut out the bits you want using iMovie or Premier, but it's time consuming. I'm not sure of any other way to do it though.

Oh, and k? That thing that was supposed to be in the mail? The USPS cunts sent it back. It had correct postage, but it weighs exactly one pound and so it has to go to the post office. Even though they RIPPED OPEN THE WRAPPING TO SEE THAT IT WAS NOTHING THREATENING INSIDE. Fuck, I hate those fuckers.

First of all, if you've so little space left after making just this, then you've done something seriously wrong. A bunch of pictures and a GarageBand track does not a 38gb file make. When you publish it, Share it for Web or something. I don't know what you've done, but you've made a massive file out of not much.

This wasn't really a movie, was it? Putting the Ray Burns effect on every still doesn't really give the illusion of movement, it's just a little annoying. It can be used effectively, but constant use just makes it look daft. Also, you sort of over used the static effect, well, not over used, just had too much jitter on it.

Oh yeah, and the music track was alright, just stay away from that awful GarageBand scratch noise. Those are terrible.

Ohhhh, I begin to see a pattern! You don't seem to like art of any kind, do you Sepsis? Creativity in a visual format scares and confuses you, I get it now. Maybe the mean Jews at art school told you that you lacked talent like they did your idol, Mr. Adolf. Awww... was that it? Lil' Jonny Hitler Sepsis can't paint a tree, so he wants to destroy the world! How emo of you...
