Love fucks you.
It fucks you whether you have it or you don't; whether you're sixteen or sixty; and it fucks you no matter where you travel on Earth.
After a "difficult" three year relationship, I found myself travelling about as far away as possible: from Canada to Australia. I had a clear mindset at departure, which left little room for anything other than drinking, self-discovery (usually with the help of drinking), and cheap fornication (also aided by drinking... and sexy accents).
Inexplicably, I've been sensing a strange feeling welling up inside me. It's usually accompanied by thoughts. Strange thoughts. Thoughts I hadn't felt in years, before ending up in a serious relationship. The kind of thoughts that idealistic, naive, lovers have.
A year ago, if my girlfriend had asked me to skip a baseball game/workout session/anything almost at all, in order to do something for her, I would have reacted with a lugubrious and dramatic, "Fuck."
But now... now I'm longing beyond all rational thought to find a girl to walk home, getting drenched in the rain while she wears my coat; a blank girl, I suppose. Someone that I can be the generic, gallant guy with.
When you're in love, any old girl is someone for whom sacrifices are made happily, not out of obligation.
It's funny, because I know that while I feel this, objectively, I am an idiot.
All my judgement tells me that, at eighteen, I'd have to be fucked-up to choose a serious relationship over the freedom of single life.
But that doesn't stop me from wanting to fuck myself over with some dizzying romantic notions, or from craving that sweet, safe, deceptive fog of love.

I've been there, and in fact still is, there before.
When you get jaded with life and bogged down with the nitty-gritty of life like going to work in a lousy job and paying mountain high bills, then of course you'd say 'bullshit' to love. But that's because you don't believe anymore, and you don't give a damn whether anyone else can be more important and you or your miserable life.
If you've been out there, putting someone else before yourself, wanting to give even if you don't get anything back, you'll know what this guy means. You'll know how it feels.
Even if that feeling is transient or what you may call 'silly', trust me, its a joy to see someone you care for happy. And it's a joy to care for and love someone.
