My daughter loves Dora the Explorer. So that of course means so do I. Saturday morning cartoons
have always been the shit, no less for my daughter than they were for me when I was her age.
If you don't know who Dora is, let me explain. She's this little like 8 year old Latina chick who runs around forests, deserts, the arctic circle, wherever she happens to be and usually recovers lost items. This little bastard fox, Swiper, is always stealing their stuff. Entertaining, plus educational for the little ones. Lots of bi-lingual learning. My 2 year old can count to 10 in Spanish now. He can't wipe his own ass but he can't count to 10 in Spanish.
Around 2005 we met Dora's cousin Diego. He's an animal rescuer. He helped Dora out with something or other and sure enough he got his own spin-off called Go, Diego, Go! He and his sister, Alicia (I think) find and help out baby animals. I watched an episode in its entirety yesterday. It flows alot like Dora's show except with alot more singing involved. It's like Dora got a sex change and desired a career on Broadway. So anyways, Diego is swinging on vines through the jungle and coming across obsacle after time filling obstacle. At one point he even commands his "rescue pack" to change into a hang glider.
He soars through the sky avoiding waterfalls and deadly jaguars to reach the baby condor who is trapped and hasn't eaten in who knows how long. So the happy ending song and dance ensues and who shows up? Diego's sister in an SUV. She just sort of looks at him as if to say, "You dumb-fuck", which of course kids interpret as "Good Job!"

In that case I rescind my statement but it certainly sounded like very thiny veiled sarcasm meant to support illegals in actuality. That is a common thread on this site incase you haven't noticed.
I work with alot of Indians and I feel your pain. Their shrill annoying voices with thick accents are a constant thorn in my side just in trying to decipher what the fuck they're talking about.

One of my daughters absolutely hates Dora the Explorer. I've asked her (no lie): What would you rather do? Have me stomp on your foot with my shoes on, or watch one hour of Dora the Explorer?
She picked "stomp my foot". She's 10 and, obviously, past the target audience of that show. Sadly, her younger sisters are not... I think that is called "Barney syndrome".

As for the comment that our cartoons (early 80's for me) are better than today's cartoons, I beg to differ. My memories of them are better. I recently watched an episode (not the movie) of Transformers. I also saw Thundercats. The animation was crap and the dialogue was cheesy. Not anything like I remembered.

This poor woman in Texas had her job at a meat plant taken by Guatemalans. She was at the grocery store with just enough money to buy milk and bread and one of those Guatemalans was in front of her in line digging through his wallet filled with 100's to find a 20. I feel that I may have been unfair in my earlier review so I am changing my mind. I have never watched this so can't really comment on it.
Just because the cartoons these days are a bit 'Tree Hugging' for my taste; doesn't mean they are wrong. Who's to say that teaching children a little more care for their environment and the animals within it is a bad thing?
I don't have children so don't understand what parents these days have to be subjected to on TV.
