Ah, a Sunday afternoon excursion to our local dirt mall. What could be better? To set the scene, go here. http://duby.com/Tallahassee%20Flea%20Market.htm
Unfortunately these photos don't quite do some of the "shops" justice.
Tallahassee, FL is neighbored by both Quincy and Havana, 2 cities with a Mexican majority, so if you wanna see any latinas in this part of Florida the flea market is a good place to start. Located right in the heart of south Tallahassee- home of Steven Tyler, the $3 haircut place and Lindy's Fried Chicken, our dirt mall is a plethora of stands. People sell anything you can imagine here, from mangy puppies to 3 wheeled Eclipse motorcars, from '86 Apple computers to roasted maize. (that's what it looks like at least)
Turning off of S. Capital Circle into the parking lot you are immediately confronted with walls of pickups, conversion vans, Kias and the occasional box chevy. Usually this place is packed so it takes a minute to find a spot. I usually park around the back, (it's closer to where they sell the beer- bud light and miller lite only, of course and about $3 or $4 a bottle) and make my way to the concessions. Well today was different.
I woke up about 3 PM today so I made it out there about 4 PM. As we pulled in, I was struck by the sight of so many police cars, 5 in front and about 3 in the back. Normally, I would have just left, but I needed a beer to go with the valiums i ate for brunch. As I walked to the beer stand I finally realized what was going on. A fucking memorial ceremony!
A woman who was a proprieter (sp?) at the dirt mall for 15 years had died and people were remembering her with song and accolades. Fellow Tallahasseans, have any of you been to our local Flea Market? If so you will understand my incredulity at the whole situation.

lmao this is hilarious. We have huge flea markets all over here in Tx, so I can totally relate. It's fun none the less, just to go for the freak show, and to see all the people out there buying up the fake tommy hilfiger and nike shit...LOL.
