Resurrected from the days of my college band...a song I wrote about 10 years ago, and we recorded this version about seven years ago.

Yeah, I know some of you will automatically -2 this for being of the Christian rock genre, but I really don't care. It's musically well-written (so I've been told by many a person) and I feel like sharing some original material today. Just kindly leave your negative deuce and move along.

And for those of you who choose to listen with an open mind and ears...constructive feedback is appreciated. I plan to re-record this at some point in the future, as I know my vocals were not so strong back when this was recorded, and I also have a different guitar sound in mind...but I'm looking for some unique ideas that I might not have otherwise come up with on my own.

Ah, heck with it. If you just want to leave an opinion devoid of constructive criticism, do that, too. I'm cool with it.

"You're There"

Now that I've reached the bottom there's nowhere else to turn
I've wasted all my assets
I've got nowhere to run
The walls fall down around me
My world begins to fold
You reach out to embrace me
Well I'm frightened by my blackened soul

But you're there
Your arms are open wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
How can I deny it, the gift you've offered me
How am I worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

On Earth you paid the penalties for all that I have done
You faced the wrath of millions with the frail form of your Son

But you're there
Your arms are open wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
How can I deny it, the gift you've offered me
How am I worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

Well now my transgressions have all been washed away
You've given me the freedom that I cannot create
One dark and lonely morning you came into my life
You laid your hands upon me
You rescued me from strife
Though I still have failings your love is always there
In my bleakest moments you show me that you care

You're there
Your arms are open wide
You're there
Calling me to your side
No longer I deny it, the gift you've offered me
Never was worthy, surely you must see
The crimes that I've committed
The evil that I've lived
It's all right there before you but still you freely give
You're there

I've saved the song on my computer. I'll listen to it later.

To answer your question (I just saw it) from a couple days ago, I got my Master's in the social sciences. That's all I'm saying right now, as I cherish my anonymity. I'm busy this evening writing a paper that no one will ever read.

heheheh...

I couldn't stop smiling through this one. I wouldn't have considered the 'Christian' connection if you hadn't said anything.

I'm with whoever said it sounded like part of a rock opera. They hit it square on.

Of course, it shares the same quality that many-an-old 'band days' tape posesses in that the recording is usually second rate, and the playing is usually just loose enough so as to signal its unprofessionalism, but therein lies its charm.

I really got a kick out of this one. :P

It inspired me to maybe post some of my "old tapes"...but only, of course, after I put a few filters on the sound so you can hear the band above the screaming, adoring throngs of fans.

Sounds like it should be part of a rock opera.

Trivia factiod: listen carefully and you'll hear measures in 5/4 and 9/4 intertwined amidst the standard 4/4 time signature.
