Money.

It has many uses - in this materialistic little society we have constructed ourselves here - we need to keep score. Money is a great idea on many levels. Money can make more money. It is fantastic.

Except when it comes to altruism - or when you simply don't have any. Then money sucks.

Also, if we are asked:

- Why do we have poverty?

- Why do we have starvation?

- Why do we have persecution?

- Why do we have injustice?

- Why do we have preventable deaths?

- Why is our education system failing?

- Why is our environment being negligently ravaged?

Why?

Lack of money. Almost ENTIRELY in every single question. (Some exceptions to every rule - but for the most part it's money.)

It's sickeningly simple. Such an obvious accepted reality that we have pretty much lost track of. We are ruled by money. DUH.

So why even talk about it?

Why even address our continued failure?

WHY harp on the BAD things going on in the world. I want to see something weird. Maybe some picture of some chick with two gooey yellow streams of diarrhea violently streaming out of fer two perfectly symmetrical distended rectums. Anyone know where I can find something like that?

Were we talking about money?

Fuck you! You aren't getting any of my money.

And fuck helping people, too. That shit costs money!

Although it would be nice to just stop pollution. Fairly-tale bullshit talk, I know - but it is a solid irrefutable fact that we could spend more "money" on filters, recycling standards and practices, expand our efforts to reuse material and limit the impact of our emissions dramatically. If MONEY wasn't a factor ...(shut off brain here... talking about politics...money...can't fucking follow)... then all of that shit would be better.

But we can't "afford it."

But why SHOULD that shit be only affordable?

Why should something like and education be affordable. Seems to me that should be fully funded.

How can we put a price on a child's unnecessary death? How can the cost of vaccinations stop their distribution where they are needed around the globe?

At what financial point do famine and starvation and war and disease and mutilation and manipulation even become noticeable? (Why should it have to be?)

These are all valid questions... but they become rhetorical because they all require questioning money.

Heck, I have some revolutionary ideas on how to affect change.

I do. But I simply don't have the cash to enact any of them. All of my ideas would require massive funding. They would all count on the very thing that EVERYthing in our society needs - money. I would insist on extreme accountability. All projects would be entirely transparent, completely altruistic in nature, immeasurably better society and humanity with their simplicity and effectiveness. We have a change we need to make in the way we think... no small task but it has been done before and I have every faith we can do it again. We have to change the way we talk to each other. The way we process information. The way we process REALITY. Out 5th estate needs to sharpen the fuck up - and we the people need to rise up and take control of our existence. We have embraced loosely organized chaos for far too long. We have tolerated this absurd globalistic stranglehold our capitalistic systems have created up until now - but the time is soon for changing all of that. We need to recognize our failures and immediately work to bring about the change that we so desperately need.

We need to embrace the fact that we are all degenerates. We kill, rape, savage, hurt, and ignore each other. We are deplorable. We leave the toilet seat up, the tampon unflushed, and carpet bomb innocent civilians. We lie, we cheat, we make fucky fucky with indiscriminate partners and objects. We pollute. We cheer for the wrong sporting team, buy the wrong hardware platform, hang out at the wrong places and drink the wrong beverages. We do drugs. Evil, evil narcotics and nasty leafy smelly ones.

We are ALL failing and it is so overwhelmingly tragic that we have shut off. We can't possibly comprehend the magnitude of our collective failures - typically we are far too aware of our own. It is simple as that. Our tiny little brains can't grasp the massiveness of society's failings... that concept? Well it's megatastically overwhelming, dude.

Although we don't entirely ignore it - we agree that we suck - shrug our proverbial shoulders and continue to do our collective "best".

We have conveniently embraced the notion of "there is nothing we can do."

Most of us are ok with that.

>shrug<

But I tell you what - money continues to be the root of the vast majority of evil we tune in for each and every news day. We know this. If we change that one MASSIVE thing we would change the world for the better. Thing is we are distracted. We can't comprehend such things anyways... we choose to change the channel - or just pop online to find horrible fucking pictures.

Hey! LOOK!

Buddha identified the cause of suffering as ignorance or wrong understanding, an upside down view of reality.

This view is based on dualistic thinking: good/bad, mine/yours, self/other, inside/outside.

Our discriminating mind gives rise to desire and craving, attachment and aversion, hate and fear.

Liberation from suffering means going beyond dualistic thinking.

Communism > Capitalism > Stalinist Dictatorship

Rob Berg,

What you've described is indeed groping towards communist ideas (if you've ever actually looked into any of that). Pity then that Stalin and the latter-day messiahs stole the rhetoric of such a good idea and used it for their own political gain.

Capitalism relies on making profits from ordinary working stiffs. We make the money. Communism requires ordinary working stiffs to run things FOR THEMSELVES. Basically, we'd get to *spend* the money *we* made. Pity, capitalism has lots of guns. But then, we even make those.

---

I think it has some communistic qualities, sure.

But as mentioned I don't ascribe to any particular 'ism' - they are all justifiable in their own contextual way. Capitalism is the sure winner in our current evolution - if only for the wonderful amount of distraction that can be produced to satisfy the masses. Also human nature tends to favor a winner - and we are simply not altruistically programmed enough to accept "EVERYONE" winning as something desirable for humanity. We want to keep track. We like to rub it in. As crappy as it is to be at the bottom - it is glorious to work your way to the top so you can send some of your own shit downhill. Spending money rocks!

Ultimately it is all about needed control. We have over 6 billion individuals wandering around this hunk of rock - each with their own unique experiences, languages, cultures and history. Every human demographic requires specific checks and balances to maintain order in the region - sort of a 'we know its broken but it works' type of an approach to crowd control.

I just find it increasingly strange that as intelligent as some of us 'working stiffs' are - we still allow ourselves to be manipulated by a tiny fraction of the population.

In EVERY case, there is corruption and inefficiency. We enable it through our apathy or exhaustion - or actively fuel it with our fervent ignorance and mindless passion.

We can do better. The question is: How?

--------------------------------------------------------
And thus is where the confusion comes in. People hear "communism" and they cringe, associating it with high taxes, no personal property, and complete government control (which in many instances where "communism" was employed as the political/economic system, this was the case). Socialist theories have been reshaped to disclude any notion of individual rights and personal choice.

Though I am very much in agreeance with fundamental Marxist theories, I feel he failed to account for the undeniable existence of human greed, and our tendency to further our own interests over that of others. Perhaps when the theory was devised, the absence of an endless line of products to satisfy every human desire rendered people consuming ONLY what they require to survive, therefore Marx (and the like) had little need to include such factors in the equation.

But the same can be said for Capitalism. It was designed based on the liberation and freedom of the individual to produce and consume according to his or her own wishes - assuming inviduals would be resourceful in their habits, which again, I'm sure was the case when the market wasn't flooded with flagrant, useless products. Production and Consumption was based on what was required to survive.
Theorists such as Rawls were extremely mindful of the best interest of the collective, and based their theories on the assumption that innate, human nature would encourage people to act in the ways that would benefit the community.

But our current situation shows that's not the case.

Both systems have been extremely polluted, and are far too out-dated. It's impossible to apply the ideas behind human motive these theories postulate, when present day conditions have not been accounted for by any means.

Relying on either/or system will not suffice.

Method,

human nature, strangely enough, is not as steadfast as commonly believed. Yes, it usually takes a crisis to make people stand up, but we're headed for one as sure as 20,000 more troops are headed to Iraq. Middle america, certainly, seems to be lagging behind, but right now those neoliberal types behind GWB are poking needles into the backside of an elephant.

If you want to be a realist, please take a moment to consider why religion, money, and all that dystopian stuff exists: one group of people wanted to show good reason why they should have control of all the stuff, when everyone else did all the work. Same goes for capitalism. Making money will get you nowhere because you'll either get caught up in it, or not make any money because you're sticking to principles. Even all the money George Soros can give away is only ever given to organisations that won't harm his balance sheet.

That was an excellent, honest, raw response, which is why I respect you even though you aggravate the fuck out of me at times. We all know that there are things wrong with the world, but when you uncomplicate things enough, you come to realize that we are, at best, very intelligent monkeys, and that we have needs and wants that are rooted in selfishness, regardless of what's going on around us. I feel that this self importance that is written into our DNA is what gives the "higher ups" in the government the upper hand to effect changes that ultimately benefit themselves. As long as our microcosms are in balance, we don't honestly give a fuck what happens outside of our little bubbles, and they're free to run around wreaking havoc.

"If I can take care of the people around me, and make sure that the people I care about are happy and healthy, I couldn't give two fucks about the state of affairs in the world."

As ignorant as that last statement was, it's the awful truth for 99% of the world, especially in the U.S., where the "heart and soul" of the country is infested by uneducated, ignorant hicks. At some point, however, the "higher ups" are going to fuck things up so badly that it WILL affect our personal lives, and that is when we will start fighting back. You see this in countries that have been torn asunder by civil war. Once you piss in a man's plate, you damn well better believe he's going to do something about it. Piss in his neighbors plate, though, and he'll feel sorry for him and just be thankful no one pissed in his own plate, and go about his business.

I'm a realist. Right now, we can whine and bitch and complain about things as much as we want, but the truth is that it's wasted breath, because there aren't enough intelligent people, or sheep herders to effect any sort of positive change. I figure that my, and your, best bet to ever effect any sort of change in this world, when the time is right, is to take this time to ensure that we are in the best possible position to ruin some proverbial shit. Capitalism, at this point, is the best way to do that. The way I see it, it's akin to receiving a flu shot - you get injected with the flu virus so you can build up an immunity. Shitty analogy, I know, but it kind of shows my point - that you have to fight fire with fire. Right now, words are about as useful as waging war with paper airplanes.

Like you said, you don't have the money to put into effect alot of the ideas you have. Neither do I. Logically, then, one must assume that the best way to get shit done in the future is by making money and being patient.

Religion, money, etc., all these things were created by man to enslave man. We're our own worst enemy. I'm my own worst enemy. You're your own worst enemy. Electro is humanity's worst enemy (He will bring the downfall of civilization, mark my words.)

I have no idea if any of that made sense.

I wonder sometimes, Rob, since you have made us all painfully aware of how much more intelligent you are than all of us, then why are you sitting around on the internet arguing with people beneath you, instead of putting that superior intellect to good use and making a difference in the real world?

Granted, I don't know you, nor do I know what you do outside of this shit hole, but I've got a good feeling that you're just about as productive as ETS, and we all know about the broad, sweeping changes he's made with regards to the issues he cares so vehemently about. I think he at one point refused to pay taxes, which didn't pan out so well, since it turns out that he values vagina over his morals and principles.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, I'm genuinely curious. Tell us what amazingly productive things you have done with your time on this planet. I'm assuming you're not a teenager, so that you've had at least some time to put your proverbial money where your mouth is.

---

Now now... I have never said I am much more intelligent that ALL of you.

You, in fact, are incredibly smart. I have always maintained that. I think that is one of the many things that attracts me to this site is the collection of hyper intelligent nerds who dwell here.

I LOVE taking my brain for a walk. This site allows that outlet. I get to look high level at the world and blather on about how fucking miserable of a state it truly is in. Sometimes my thoughts are met with a positive response - sometimes it is mixed and other times it is predictably negative. I thrive on ALL of the responses. I love the conversations. I love the divergent thought! I don't agree with it, and rather enjoy mixing it up - ESPECIALLY with the smart ones.

Arguing with idiots isn't fun at all. Ole Blabby here is exceptionally smart. He is very well informed about many different topics - he chooses to place a repugnant 'right wing' spin on things and as such annoys the fuck out of me.

I have often stated that I am lazy - in fact I should be working right now instead of punching these little keys - but in my own way, dumping my thoughts out makes me feel like I am at least preparing myself for some sort of eventual contribution. Part of me feels that simply TALKING about the world's issues is what is needed - as it will take ALL of us to actually deal with them.

I think ETS is much more productive in his 'actions' than I am - oh sure I recycle and take public transportation and buy locally when I can - but as far as really affecting change in 'my world' I mostly only accomplish that through being the best human being I can be. I am surrounded by people who love me, and whom I love in return. I am happy and enjoy life - even with the awareness of all the shit that surrounds us.

That isn't enough - I know this. You know this, but in the meantime I don't see any harm in talking - even if it is only in this shithole.

(...and I certainly don't consider this an attack... I always enjoy it when you come by for a chat.)

Which it was.

By the way, Why don't take a class on economics, Mr. Brilliant? You are advocating socialism.
------------------------------------------
Why dont you take a class on anything?

Socialism is a POLITICAL SYSTEM (so why you recommend a Course in Economics I am unsure) often employing a (economic) system of state ownership of goods/production, and litte to no private property, shit face.

---

tsk tsk... your ignorance is showing.

I don't advocate any 'ism'.

However, are all the principles of socialism all that repulsive? hmmm?

Capitalism is a much more logical choice - especially when you consider our well established human nature. We need rewards and incentives to motivate us and drive innovation.

Problem with ascribing to any one established way of thinking is they are all inherently incomplete. Which is why I advocate a radical change in thinking - a move to incorporate the best of these concepts and drive NEW applications of these well established principles.

We need better education, environmental protection, healthcare.

There is nothing false about that statement. ALL of those areas could be vastly improved. 'WE' don't do anything because of the economic impact.

Well guess what? WE invented economics. We invented concepts like democracy and capitalism.

People are suffering all over the world and we have conveniently absolved ourselves of responsibility because it cost too much to do anything about it. That is bullshit. You know it's bullshit - but you have embraced your chosen 'ism' and will irrationally and steadfastly defend it with all of your bloated might.

We need to change the way we think. This world will be a much better place when that happens.

I am much smarter than you. Does that fact bug you? I agree with A LOT of what you say - but you are so blinded by your irrational idiocy that you feel like I am some sort of 'enemy'. You are a weak, small minded, reactionary jackass.

I absolutely love when you come by and smear your ignorance all over my posts. The rating means fuck all to me - the simple fact that you have not even bothered to read anything I have to say in your furious quest to be a giant fucking retard make me happy.

We have these things because someone decided to make a pair of shoes. Then someone else did, and made them a little better and charged a little more. Then everyone wanted those shoes. So the first shoemaker honed his craft and upped the quality and, naturally, the price. People were now paying $3 for shoes. Then some third guy rolls in with shitass shoes and starts selling them for $500 and everybody starts stepping on their balls to hurt themselves and distract their minds from the fact that they don't have these sweet, costly shoes. The shoes are actually made out of camel assholes, but they don't know that. They just know they want them because they cost a lot and their neighbors don't have them. Then someone takes some enema bags and slaps a French label on them and shoots the price through the moon, and now the uneducated morons are walking around with shit between their toes and smiles on their faces because they have the latest and greatest. Nevermind that they have cancer or their kids can't read, and their kids are fucking 14 and 10.

But they're happy. And here we are.

We all have shit between our toes.
