Astute observation.
It might be the angle of the flash, hitting one eye more than the other, but it might be a leftover ocular injury I had as a teenager. A tennis ball hit me in the face, popping the lens of my glasses out and driving the edge of it into my eye. My retina got scratched and I had a drop or two of blood behind it. I couldn't see out of it for two days and when I got better, one pupil was bigger than the other.

Though I am of Italian descent...but the only thing I got from that ethnicity is a weakness for pasta and some fairly greasy skin.
