It kinda looks like pencil smudges - so I can see what you are saying for sure... but it's just a regular ballpoint pen, a few long visits with the green lantern, and some various photoshop tools.

The original drawing is in pen - and has a very rich feel to it.
Once it is scanned it loses a fair bit of it's organic smoothness - so I spent a while trying to get a similar 'digital texture' - but nothing comes close to what you see when holding the sketch pad.
I also added a couple of pictures in the background. (The drawing is just on white.)
So, while the final image looks very similar to the original (sharing basic composition) the picture additions and various manipulations in Photoshop create something entirely different.
