I love that my child likes me to sing Sinatra to her.
I love that she insists on watching me shave.
I love that she hugs me when she wakes, and when she goes to bed.
I love that she laughs in her sleep.
I love that my dogs are overjoyed when I come home.
I love that they watch intently as I prepare dinner.
I love that one of my cats acts like a dog.
I love that another one needs to lie in my lap during every sitting moment.
I love that my wife says I'm her hero, even after all these years.
I love it that she lets me flirt.
I love it that she knows I need to be alone...sometimes.
I love it when she's happy.
I love that Shakespeare fills me with joy.
I love it that Beethoven livens my spirit.
I love Nat King Cole.
I love The Beatles.
I love the warmth of a shot of bourbon on an empty stomach.
I love the first cigarette of the day.
I love popcorn...and pickles.
I love getting drunk on a Friday night.
I love going to bed and looking forward to waking up.
I love my morning coffee.
I love that my boss considers me indispensable.
I love (some of) the people I work with.
I love my sister, and my three brothers, and my mom and dad (even if they hate each other).
I love that my sister and I share so many interests.
I love that my mom bought me "Double Fantasy" the day after John Lennon was killed.
I love that my dad still sees fit to drink several vodka-and-tonics every night, even after his stroke.
I love that my mom badgered the hell out of me for years to return to school.
I loved that my dad laughed so hard every time my knuckleball confused the hell out of a batter.
I love that my mom spoils her grandchildren.
I love my memories of every dog I ever had.
I love that I can think fondly on all my past lovers.
I love my childhood remembrances...running through the woods and building forts and digging tiger traps for friends to fall in.
I love that my best friend was the only black kid in school, in a town full of rednecks.
I love sleeping on the ground when it's well below freezing, bundled up like a sherpa.
I love when it rains.
I love the sound of the desert at night.
I love lighting and thunder.
I love rivers and canyons.
I love shooting beer cans in the mountains.
I love that, at 39 years of age, I can still hike into those mountains and be...absolutely...alone. Or one with God. I'm not sure.

I "started" quitting in June, and haven't bought a pack since. For about 6 months, I was still smoking when I was drinking, which is usually only 1-2 nights a week, if that. But over the past 2 months or so, I've cut that out almost entirely, as well. I've smoked about 3 cigarettes since Christmas, and while I still have cravings, they're manageable and I start to feel a little sick when I actually smoke.
