Something happened to High Falls in this
abyss of night,
In darkness so cold it wrung tears, hindered sight;
This everflowing torrent and fluid cascade
Furiously raced gravity with liquid might-
Endlessly in motion, reducing to silt the very
stone it flayed.
But on this frigid eve it was awesomely unique
And shivering I stared too transfixed to speak
(As the Spirits of the Forest in whispering winds
prayed)
Thus by ancient alchemy did liquid gel to gem,
Thus had High Falls succumbed at 3 degrees at 3 A.M.
I intrude, a voyeur invading this cold tranquility, this
Eternity of ice-silence;
The deep thick darkness is everywhere pierced by
dormant cicle-laden trees,
Greyemerald gymnosperms fading into the frozen depths as
Ambiguous and obscure as their Paleozoic heritage:
This eerie event of landscape- in its totality- juggled
And terminated
seconds
and hours-
Time fled in absolute vacuum-still quiet.
The invisible silence of physics negating entropy;
The aphony of nature's precision/progression-
Molecules being drugged, slowly sedated by the cold
And photographing instants:
This waterfall, atom by atom is now teasing
gravity,
An illustration of Beauty transcending limits:
My waterfall was plucked from some dimensional
flow-
Frozen in ice
Frozen in time
Frozen in the eternity of my mind,
At 3 degrees at 3 A.M.
