Not sure exactly where he'd land, but sure the jump would be invigorating, he packed the box into his car. Stashing a duffle of clothes in the trunk, a tire iron under the driver's seat and a stack of caseless CDs in the glove box. Here was his bon voyage, back pats and free beer welled in his memory as he ascended to the driver's seat. The car shuffled out of it's month long retirement and leapt to the road, leaves doing their best to confetti his voyage, trip, demise: whatever it would turn out to be. He had few roots to hold him, equally a benefit and late night sorrow. He'd be back, certainly. Atlanta was his port of plenty: plenty of friends, plenty of history, plenty of success (and failure), he couldn't stay away. He also couldn't stand it. It still punished him becasue he hadn't learned to love it's contrariness and ever-shifting identity. How many people had asked him to describe it, now he felt it could be described with some sicintity: it's in the rearview.
Would he let himself grow with it? This city, the next New York? He knew he was no New York, but maybe... he could ba an Atlanta. Going away with new metals for the forge, to come back honed and ready for, what?
