I happened across Bart's resume a while back. Let me share an excerpt from it.
"Designed, wrote, and maintan Ubersite, an experiment to see if a website can generate and maintain itself after an initial code installation. Users can register an account, submit stories, and rate other users' stories with the end result being a site tailored specifically to its readers." ~Bart Cilfone
The truest definition of what Ubersite really is... straight from the horse's mouth. Not the point I was trying to make, but relevant for past posts I have submitted as well as others.
Let me start by saying that UBERSITE is a great place. I have been apart of this site for a long time and don't plan on really ever stopping. I thank Bart in whatever capacity this place means to him for his involvement in it's inception.
People are always mentioning Bart, talking about Bart, appoealing to Bart. I like it better when they are ripping on him or fucking with pictures that he has posted, but hey that is just me.
So without further adieu On to my point and the meaning for the preceding subject title...
Bart is just a regular guy. A web designer and techie. I venture to say that he is a tech junkie in the sense that he eats sleeps and breathes computers, because it is his trade. He is most likely to incorporate some technical aspect in to most of his day to day problem solving simply because it is in his nature.
I would venture to say that the end-user functionality and popularity of Ubersite, goes no further then just making sure that it works from a programming standpoint, skimming for content on bored at work, and half-assedly commenting from time to time. I can barely recall a time when Bart was apart of the "society" of Uber.
Sadly, some of you spend WAY to much time on Ubersite. The level of time and effort that goes in to some of the posts submitted by a few of you users amazes me, but whatever. Hey Uber is well whatever Uber is to you, but I think that to Bart Ubersite is a responsibility and he treats it as such. Case in point, Bart had 3 posts in 2006 and only 7 in 2005.... in a years time.. Bart has had the same amount of posts as some of you post inside of a week.
Bart is no Demi-God. When you look for his approval or participation, I would feel confident in saying that responding never crosses his mind. When you rip on him, he might chuckle but aside from that I doubt he gives it a second thought. Your requests for changes in Uber or suggestion for improvement, most likely are low priority or just simply fall on deaf ears.
Bart is a programmer that created Ubersite to fine tune his programming skills and has used you all as Guinea Pigs in his little programming experiment so that you can all collectively be a blip on his resume. Not to say that that he doesnt seem like a personable guy, hell if given the opportunity I wouldn't mind meeting him and buying him a beer. But I believe that Ubersite is a pet project that Bart has probably grown out of. I will also say that appreciate that he most likely continues to perpetuate Ubersite because of what it has become and what it means to us all as a collective because I am sure that somehow somewhere Ubersite costs him money, since I am sure that the Uberboard doesn't offset much with it's income, since I see burned in to the top of my monitor now "Work is the Scourge of the Drinking Class"
All things aside, Bart seems like the kind of guy that I would get along with, probably cut of the same mold as most of us, but though he is a techie by trade he doesnt eat sleep and breathe Ubersite loike some of you do. I am not bashing him, but I think that Bart probabaly gives maybe 30 mins of consideration to Ubersite in a given week, and there has been far too many posts in the past months regarding the state of Ubersite, what needs to change, what is wrong with it, etc. and frankly those of you posting that shit need to embrace reality.
For the record I would think it was cool if Bart actually posted a comment on this submission though I won't lost any sleep if he doesn't.

I haven't been hanging around here very long nor do I contribute much compaired with some of you, but this has become one of my favorite sites. My job is boring as fuck, and this website with all its crazy users, alters, trolls, and douche bags keeps me entertianed everyday. Believe it or not I look forward to going to work just so I can read all the fucked nonsensical bullshit that people posted while I was asleep. I'm deployed so and my days are long and boring, Ubersite keeps things interesting for me.

I didn't intend for this post to be as derogatory as you took it. It just seemed back in the day you were much more involved and as of late, you don't post... well much...
All things aside if I underestimated your involvment in the site in the background I apologize, but as far as participating in the foreground you used to be much more of a staple.
I have seen Uber go through some changes and I have always kind of wondered how you perceieved your portayal on here...

Not really. 10 posts in 2 years in one way of counting. 130 posts in 7 years is another. You have 134 posts in 4 years. You've written about 1,000 reviews whereas I've written almost 6,000. We all choose our own level of participation.
I would like to think that Ubersite is a bastion of creativity and unique thinking. Understandably, creative uniqueness will most frequently have the appearance of chaotic nonsense mixed with Lord of the Flies tribal behavior.
When people write really good things, it's very fun to read Ubersite, however, everybody constantly glorifies the days of yore as being better than current times. This is not a characteristic unique to Ubersite. Talk to an 80 year old person and they'll talk about how people used to be more honest, kids used to be less destructive, drugs weren't a problem, etc. Granted, they'll also ignore the fact that the expected human lifespan was several years shorter, it was legal to lynch negros, and there was no Internet, email, cell phone, cable tv, or computer. It's just the way that people think.
Every new generation has a different way of living. Ubersite has its own generational element. Anyone here is either:
* Naive and optimistic. When they post for the first time, their ass is a wad of cookie dough. After a few times, they're carved out of wood.
* In a middle phase where their writing has improved and they post a lot. These people make up the bulk of what Ubersite "is" on a daily basis.
* In a decline phase where they are bitter and jaded in the ways that things have changed.
* In a legendary retired phase where they are revered by others and their return is celebrated with song and dance.
This kind of cycle is why the growth of the site is flat. The environment can only hold so many people, so while there are short term ups and downs, overall the volume stays the same.
I've mentioned this before, but the solution is that the environment needs to be different. Any single environment will have some maximum capacity. Changing the environment through any sort of moderation scheme will not change the capacity of the site, but it may help to fill the space with better material. On the other hand, changing the environment so that different groups can exist and be isolated from the rest of the collective would allow each individual group to have the same operational capacity as the entirety of the site today.
What I have been trying to figure out and have been working on in a limited capacity is how can I change Ubersite to allow people to break off into little cliques without completely destroying what is here now. Preferably, it would all be automatic so that as people rated things, they would cluster with other people with similar interests. Each person could end up in multiple clusters, so in the end, each person sees an Ubersite unique to him or her and that site is full of things that they will have a better chance of liking. There would need to be some way to disable this or at least to see everything as the site is today, but that would become the kind of thing that only administrators and masochists would want to see.
That is the site foretold by the prophecy (http://www.ubersite.com/cgi-bin/about.cgi). If it comes true, the world may never be the same again.

Me using Ubersite to fine tune my programming skills? There's nothing about Ubersite that's difficult to program. It could have been a project in a junior year university computer science class.

Said it before, say it again... the amount of cash the site costs is next to nothing compared to the cash equivalent of the time that I spend on it. ~$200 per month in server fees + ~$5,000 per month in dedicated IT support and custom application development time.

Bart was shot dead during a botched robbery attempt in Chicago. It happened about 2 weeks ago. :( The ownership of this site is being decided by his parents via mediation with some people from this website. Razor is the one that is believed to be the next owner. Cilfone Entertainment will cease to exist as the new Ubersite will lose the Cilfone title.

For the most part - again with the exception of Locksly - I very seldom rate anything. I just check it out every now and then. However, tonight I am feeling mischevious, and yours just happened to be the first post on the page.

Ironically, by stating something about people complaining about content, I am also saying that it is ok at the same time! Ubersite is what you make of it, here are a few suggestions for guidelines that work for me, take em, leave em, put your own spin on em, ignore em, rearrange them in to alternate song lyrics for sweet home Alabama, I really don't care.
1. Don't hold your personal standards to someone elses work, cause they don't care. They probabaly will think you are a tool anyway.

Umm like you say that you TYPICALLY do aside from me now of course ILK... I judge the post not the poster. And since you decided to attack my post rather harshly, I decided to see what that soapbox you are standing on looks like. So I read your posts. I rated them as I saw fit and stated why .
