As a child I was a huge fan of what is pointlessly known as supermarionation. To the ill informed, this means a bunch of puppets bouncing about looking pretty stupid (to my weathered eyes these days), but back in the day, goddamn it was better than sliced bread. Gerry Anderson is probably one of the best known puppety dude creators, and while I'm sure there have been others, I reckon he's the best. He is the creator of a whole bunch of kick ass puppety dude series: Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, Stingray are my personal favourites, in that order, probably.
What many people don't know is that he also created another series, a mind-bogglingly bizarre and frankly disturbing series called Terrahawks. It ran for a year in the 80's and churned out and impressive (given its weirdness) 40 episodes or so.
The show is set in the year 2020, when the planet Mars gets invaded by a hideously deformed mutant andriod planet fucker upper called Zelda along with her sister Cystar and her little bambino Youngstar. Yes, the names really are that good. For whatever mystifying reason, a bunch of people called The Terrahawks, who exist solely to protect earth from the planet fucker uppers decide that this is some kind of an excuse to go and fight. They're lead by a guy called Tiger Ninestein, who is a clone with nine lives. Witty, isn't it? There's somebody called Zero in there too, but I can't remember much about him.
I wasn't aware of the existence of this warped show until my girfriends sister asked me if I had ever seen it, claiming it was more fucked up than Fat Joe licking a shoe. If that's an episode of 'Cribs' you happened to miss, I strongly suggest you stop reading this bollocks and get on youTube to see it, truly there is nothing funnier than a fat man licking a shoe with an animal look of hunger in his eyes. I checked out this Terrahawks thing and was truly horrified that this 'childrens show' ever existed. I've only been able to find a couple of good youTube clips of it, but surely, somehwere, there must be more!

This might have been slightly before my time ('81) as I don't really remember them. I was more a Superted or Bosco fan. Though oddly enough I remember Punch and Judy on telly as well, which is strange bc logic would say that was AGES before my time.
Zig and Zag were the bomb biggity though.
