In the slow yawn of day's wake,
She reaches over to sweep back a lock of fire, lost across a face acquiesed in dream.
She looks east to the window; the rising aurora, the remnants of sundry stars.
A brilliant battle cast across the atmosphere, and holding the world quiet for but a split second.
If only she could stay in this space.
Locked in sleep, his pale skin exposed and finally peaceful.
This silent glory is the closest she ever comes to victory.
She feels a timid caress stumble up along the trace of her hip, and softly lays her body back down.
She slides in for another slow moment.
For one more moment, she lets herself dream.

After the hurricane -
He asked how she felt,
And she said, simply, "tired".
But never told of her vengeance.
When he asked for trust back,
She told him time decides
And cast a smile over grease-streaked cheeks.
When he asked for her forgiveness,
She slowly nodded,
But never told him why.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's moments when the light catches his face just right
And she's shaken up in sudden uncertainty -
High noon and tangled limbs - his eyes closed and lips curled in the covet of embrace -
She sees him so clearly;
a stretch of barren distance,
bloodlines
and disconnect.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Longing for her life back. Longing for the bittersweet freedom of not having to love at all.
Longing for a breathe free of the choke lust takes on the throat.
Sometimes she knows she's going through the motions.
Sometimes she knows she's better off alone.
